I posted this over in the minimoto section and got zero response, so I'll try here.
The time is fast approaching to replace the motor in my minimoto. I'd like some suggestions on which way to go. I'm looking for a reliable 14-16 horsepower, and my budget is $600ish. Is it do able? YX160? Lifan 150? What should I start with and how should I mod it to get me to there?

Go with a YX150 or 160 with the V2 roller rocker head + piston kit.
the 160 with a v2 head s35 cam should get you that hp range. If you do the piston kit you will need to do the clutch too. or wait till next year when the 6disk clutches arrive and reinforced cases. If you don't have a good 26mm carb then you will want that or 28 even.

I was thinking of getting one of the YX160 motors soon since they are all on sale. It will mount in a frame with a 50 patern right? It uses the CRF50 style header right? I think this might be the perfect motor to buy now and mod as I go.

The YX engines OGM has the CRF header, just make sure about the other ones, some are the CRF exhaust style and some are KLX. If you go with the V2 its going to be KLX anyway and you will need a new stud kit. Yes they are the Honda motor mount pattern.
when are the 6-disc clutch and reinforced case motors coming out?
