Installed the slide backwards?? The idle screw in to far?? Or you have massive air leak..
cleaned carb on z50r now runs wide open when started???????
I just bought an '84 z50r that is all original and the carb needed a good cleaning. I took it apart and cleaned it real well and put it back together and now when I kick start it, it will start right up but it runs wide open without touching the throttle. I have to use the choke to make it run at a near idle but it smokes like crazy too rich. I have rebuilt several carbs like this and always had good luck but this has me stumped. The first thing I did was check that I had the slide in the right way (it is) and the throttle functions correctly and moves the slide up and down correctly. Could the float and needle be stuck? I have taken it apart a couple of times and checked it and it seems to be right. Is there maybe an attachment to the float that attaches to the needle that maybe I lost when I took it apart? I thought that the needle slides right into the plastic float but is there something else that attaches to the float to hold the needle? Maybe I lost it when I took it apart? Please help me out. It's driving me nuts.

Possibility as well the springs and some have a small oring, all matter. If possible take a picture of side of carbmaybe got air screw an idle screw mixed up?

figured it out. when I took it apart I usually count the air screw turns AND the idle turns. I didn't count the idle turns this time. I screwed the idle screw all the way seated and then turned it a couple turns out. when it would run I tried turning the idle a few turns and nothing happened so I ruled it out. I took it all apart this time and I really looked at the slide in the bore and what effect the idle screw has on it compared to fully closed with no idle screw in it. anyway, damn, the idle screw head protrudes out pretty far. I'm glad it was something simple. I rode it around in the yard for a bit for the first time and it runs beautifully. All original '84 and just missing a side number plate. thanks to pitrider.
No worries man, it's good to hear you got it running right. What you did there with looking at the slide as you turn the idle screw in an out and acknowledge how it works is Huge!!! Take that with you on anything you do and you will be surprise how easily you can fix things by understanding how things work oppose to " I put everything back how it goes and it still doesn't run right".... A lot of ppl don't take the time to understand how things work vs how they go.

I had the same issue man, it's pretty annoying, I though i'd need a new carb or something!
Ill try and back out the idle and check my float in the carb and re-assemble it I have the right amount of tension on my throttle cable it ran fine before it just pissing me off
S**t I just realized my idle screw is all the way in I'm at work now I just want to go home and fix it
Are you sure the slide is in correctly? remove airfilter and look at slide
Yeah the side with the short notch correct should I take a pic
It can't have anything to do with the 88 big bore kit I put on right ?
I mean I put my cam timing right or it wouldn't start ?
