I will be ordering my 88 kit from TB this week, after talking with Mike and getting the details I need to have a reliable bar banger he has advised me to upgrade the clutch.

I found this one on the Classic Honda web site and was wondering if any of you use one or one like it?

Also do you need the clutch nut wrench to disassemble the unit?

Look around, you can find the Takegawa Heavy Duty Clutch Kit cheaper if you look around. Check out minibikeoutlet.com. They said they have to tool in stock too. You may want to call and see how to order the tool, I didnt see a part number on the site anywhere.

You will need the clutch nut socket to get your clutch off. Ive heard it works great, thats the next mod on my list.
The Classic Honda auto clutch is a great investment. I have used this clutch on several different motors and it works very well.

And to do the job properly you will need a clutch removal tool.

Good luck on your new purchase.

This clutch works great, i have a used one for sale if you want to save a couple bucks. Only used it for a couple of weeks before switching to manual set up. I would also highly recommend getting Classic/takegawa 3 speed close ratio tranny. For $215.00 (tranny cost) you will be very pleased with the difference this makes. PM me if interested in the clutch.
Pish posh, you dont need that clutch removla tool, they just make you think you do. Just use a screwdriver and hammer to bend the tabs back.

 Screwdriver and hammer... now thats hillbilly

I guess I take a little more pride in the work I do, and I really don't won't to jack up my screwdriver either.

anyway just my 2 cents.

first of all jack up your screwdriver?? wth?? do you buy plastic screwdrivers or just plain junk from k-mart?? i dunno bout you but i use craftsman and it sure can take alot of abuse. and that tool is a waste of money.....took me just as long to do it without the tool and just bend back the tabs like he said. and i guess your pride in your work is a lil over done. get some balls. just my .04 cents
Wooo! Easy there killer.. If he wants to use the tool, more power to him.
but saying that he doesnt want to mess up a screwdriver??? jeez talk about anal.

i was just saying it is really pointless to spend the 30 bucks or whatever it is when most everyone that has a tools will be able to take it off with what they have.....not needing to spend money on anyhting else....put that towards the motor. naw mean.
Thats what I was saying. There is no real need for that tool if you have the slightest since. And WTF, hurt your screwdriver, its not like those tabs are made out of Adamantium or anything , just some metal that bends very easy, a couple taps is all it takes. And how is it hillbillly, to me I think its pretty smart because I saved $30 which can go towards something else.
I suggest the tool, I used the screwdriver hammer technique the first time I took my clutch off and it worked OK. Doing this mars up the little tabs and there are only four of them. Also I am sure it does not get as tight using the screwdriver when you go to put it back on.

I just did some clutch work on a 85 honda four wheeler and tried the screwdriver method and broke off two of the little teeth. Then I went and bought the tool (same as for the 50) and did it the right way.
1985.........i guess some peopel just cant make do with what they have..........its cake either way and my clutch doesnt look at tad bit messed up nor are the tabs coming off.
Thanks for all the advise, I will take it all into consideration it looks like the Takegawa Heavy Duty Clutch Kit may be the one I am leaning towards..

Thanks again.
How do you torque the clutch on to the crankshaft with correct specs without the 4 pronged tool?

Very good point...
I just torqued it down then bent the tabs up on it.
