chinese clone inspiration, ignition tech

A guy I know from another forum built this thing, which he calls "Pocketchop". It was in response to some sort of challenge to build a chopper for $20 or something like that. It started as a 110cc Chinese pocketbike thing.

The builder, who asked to be identified as F_ck_ng Hell Fred, has this to say about the Pocketchop's ignition system:

"The Pocketchop's ignition system is powered by rust. There's a big round rusty thing that spins round and round. There's another rusty thing inside it what makes electricity for the coil. On the outside of the rusty spinning thing is another rusty bit, and it sees a lump of rust on the spinny thing go by, and when it does, it shoots pure rust along a wire to the ignitor box, where it's combined with cesium to form a spark."

yup...I'd want one. Just to cruise around the neighborhood on. It would be a pretty fun timekiller, both building and riding.:) Haha great description too. That would work like a charm if he wanted to sell it on craiglist.
Is that an office chair and tape for handle grip? Thats gold.

Haha. now I want one soo bad. who knew something soo simple can seem soo much fun.
I might mention that the pocketchop was sort of a break from F_ck_ng Hell Fred's other project, which has for some time been to turbocharge a BMW K75 triple and fit it with a custom EFI system for extra fuel delivery.

I think he's nearing completion of version 2.0 now, which is a rework of the plumbing and electronic engine management stuff. He took version 1.0 on a multi-state shakedown run about a year ago and it worked, but was EFI-limited at high speeds. Somewhere in there he decided it needed a top-end overhaul too, which was probably a little pricey. The thing looks pretty cool; it's like a naked survival bike with these two great big round halogen headlights, and the turbo hanging out there by the engine, and this cool-looking aluminum plenum he made.

I wish I could just up and build stuff like that.
About as nice looking as one of those Orange County Choppers...:D
