Hey everyone,
New to minis but have wrenched and rode motorcycles all of my life. I've wanted a grom for a while but can't justify the price tag (sorry, i just cant)

anyways, I have searched endlessly for replicas and am considering pulling the trigger on a Boom which is short for Boom International Holdings they sell for $1500 brand new. It looks like the same engines as the 125cc pit bikes use and could easily be swapped in the future if needed.

Does anyone have any information as far as the quality of these things? I understand its a chinese made bike and its not a Honda. But i've learned there can be a bit of difference in quality with some manufactures. They are able to be registered and street legal where im at (TX). Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to get ahold of the guys that have them and check one out today. They supposedly just received 50 of them. I'll try to snap some pictures if I get the chance and report back. I thought I had a dr350 lined up today but the buyer flaked out. Have a lead on a 09' klx250 at a decent price I may check out as well. I used to have a klx250sm and it was okay, underpowered for a big bike though. I mainly want something to hop around the city on, highway riding isn't a big concern for me.

Well, I was able to check this bike out today first hand. When I got there they had a white and black one getting finished up. They literally received these first two today. I had them fill the white one with some fuel and was able to witness it start for the first time.

My first impressions were good, the bike looked well put together and pretty nice. They start it and I could barely hear the engine running. I was taken aback as I heard an SSR 125 go screaming by moments before. I overheard the guy test driving it say "I can't believe that's a 125!" But back to the BOOM. I am the first to ride this thing since being put together. I leave the garage cautiously and make it about 50 yards and can't help but feel bewildered of why this thing doesn't accelerate past 3k rpms. It does reach 6k rpms but it is SLOW. I turn around and the bike starts to cut out all electricity. It had blown a fuse.i push it back to their garage and they disassemble the front light fairing. After a few minutes they found a loose yellow wire going to nothing that was causing a short. The black one had the same issue.

Stil intrigued, I thought I'd give it another go thinking maybe the ignition wasn't performing right.

i hop on and away a go.....50 yards later I turn around and go WOT into 2nd at a crawling pace. It feels like the power delivery of a 50cc scooter. Not a two stroke scooter either. I made it to 2nd gear and just pulled it back in their space.

overall fit in finish was not bad! It would be a fun bike if it had any acceleration at all.

a side note: the seat has a hump that raises where a rear passenger would sit. It makes it uncomfortable to ride because it forces you to sit so far on top of the tank. I don't feel this thing could pop the front up if you tried and was pretty disappointed with it. Just a anerexit docile engine. If you buy one, immediately toss a bigger engine in it and you may enjoy it.

the triple tree metal was my only standout concern as it looked like it has pitted metal that was painted over, the black one did as well.

the chain was extremely overly tight but I don't feel this had a major affect on the poor performance.

I was able to snap some pictures and will upload soon.

going to check out a klx250s tomorrow.
