So here is my dilemma and hopefully your guys can help. I just got an xr50 motor for a build i am working on and it has a takegawa big bore kit installed. Now its starts right up and idles and everything but it smokes like a mother. Now im on a little bit of a budget or else i would just do a whole new top end with race head but right now thats not in the cards. So here is my question, should i buy a whole new bigbore kit with jug and piston and whatnot or should i keep the takegawa jug and buy just a new 52mm piston and rings?

Assuming nothing is scratched on the cylinder or piston, hone the cylinder, install fresh rings and valves seals and keep riding it

I dont have the capability to hone.and i think the rings from tak are about $60. for another $40 or so i can get fresh everything. which i think i may be leaning towards.

You're probably just gonna have to bite the bullet and tear into it. I would suspect the rings are gone possibly the cylinder too.
