i just got mine in today and installed it. there are 4 wires to this one as opposed to 2 like the factory one. what are the 2 white wires for? neither has power to them. the only one with power is the black with red tracer and its putting out nearly 50 volts.

lastly, where can i get a basic voltage regulator? my friend went to autozone and they only had vehicle specific ones. i need it tomorrow as im leaving for the desert weds morning.

you can pick up a multimeter at home depot or osh...or lowes.

make sure you get one that does:

Ohm(checking resistance on parts/wires)

Volts

Amps

Then you can use it for a multi-tude of things on troubleshooting multiple things in life.

if you can't afford it..just get a volt meter.

far as the stator..I couldn't tell you much about it without being there..as I never touched a Baja Designs stator

why do i need to get a multimeter? i have a high dollar voltmeter. i need a voltage regulator.

ya regulator by wed will be hard. gonna have to order that...unless you find one at cycle gear, a dirtbike shop, maybe lil more auto specific places. We have Winchester here in santa cruz which carries way more stuff than a napa or shucks/kragen does...your kit didnt come with it?

no, it only comes with the stator. im pretty sure i can find one tomorrow, its just going to take some running around.

also, whats up with the 4 wires? the thing that doesnt make sense is the 2 white wires dont have any power to them? what are they for? people that are running lights on their 50s, what does your wiring look like?

I'll look at my bike tomorrow but i think it might be for the kill switch, or does that come into play further down the line. I have the full wiring kit on mine and it came with all the wiring and regulators. Best of luck on finding one.

NONE of the local shops have voltage regulators. nearest one i found is 60mi away.

i dont have a lighting coil so what am i going to do with the white wires? does one need to be grounded then the other will supply power?

If you didn't have a lighting coil* on your stator, you wouldn't have the two white wires, in my opinion. Ground one white wire, hook the other up to a light that is also grounded to the frame, and see if it lights up.

did you click on the link to the diagram I posted in #8 above?

Hi Garrett here is a basic Diagram on how to wire in a Ac regulator.

https://www.bajadesigns.com/2005 Web Site/PDF Files/AC REGULATOR WIRING.pdf

the AC regulator should be able at most motorcycle shops. The white wires that are left alone are you're lighting coil leads. With a voltmeter in AC setting you should be able to read AC voltage coming out of there with the bike running.

so i ground one of the white wires and the other has power to it? AC voltage too. i was checking for DC yesterday.

the stator is already grounded so you will be using both white wires in this case.

i will be using both white for what? one as a ground and one as a power? i have a 12-2003 regulator coming to finish hooking up my lights. in your regulator installation instructions it only shows a yellow and a brown. your 12-2003 has 4 wires, correct? red goes to one of the white from the stator? black goes to the other white? it looks as though there are two yellow? which one goes to the lighting and which goes to the ground?
