The 1981-1985 Honda ATC 70's pull starters have now been added to the discontinued list of Honda parts. This forced me to rebuild a few of them and I'd like to share a bit of information that I have found through the process.... I saw a NOS one go for $250 on ebay.

The pulley is still available....$33... and is one of the culprits of the pull starter not working properly.

The pulley contains the spring which is not that hard to wind.

The pull starter dogs fit into the cage mounted on the flywheel.The pull starter has a separate mounting cover.

The dogs come out and mesh into the cage as the pull starter is pulled.

Here are some pics of some pulley problems I have encountered.... do you see the cracks in the pulley and wear?The pulley is made of steel.

The rope ties into the pulley and the spring does not have to be removed to change the rope if your rope breaks.

The hole in the original dog is used for this clip. The new dogs do not have the hole so the clip can't be reused.

Anyone know if the rope knot cover ..#13 ^^^^ is used on another Honda pull starter handle application ? Another part on the discontinued ATC 70 parts list. Black electrical tape doesn't hold.
