Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and wanted to see if anyone can help me with an ignition problem.

I have 1984 ATC70. I rebuilt the stator, new points and condenser, new ignition coil. The bike was running fine until the other day, I started it, it spit and sputtered and wouldn't start again.

It has no spark. The black ignition wire has continuity to ground even when the points are open. If I remove the ground from the exciter coil the continuity goes away when I open the points.

Does anyone know if the condenser could be my problem? Can it go bad and short to ground?

Make sure the wires soldered to the top of the condenser are not touching the condenser body at all.

Thanks, I'll check that. My soldering iron really wasn't powerful enough, so if nothing else I'm borrowing a friend's to re-solder it.
