230 in a 150?

1009 Views 25 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  dood
has anyone thought about it or even tried stuffing a crf 230 crank in a yx 150? i jsut got the idea and it may be doable. if somone like hack or dood could tell me more on why it wouldnt work. or if it would. the stroke is 66.2 and the bore is 65.5. so you could have yourself a yx 230, with a low compresssion and still make good power with alot of low end. any ideas?

Main bearing diameters, width, drive location and spline, cam drive location and type, flywheel taper, etc all would have to be in the ballpark. They ain't;)

It's too f-n cold up there to be outside without a hat. Brainfreeze will make you consider that sort of nonsense...
I can think of alot easier ways to get 230cc's out of a YX engine.

Sure, and I've got no doubt you can get the air in & out, but can you make the clutch/trans/cases live?

Yea... weld the top end off a YX engine to a CRF150R bottom end.

Machine the case to take a horizontal cylinder and.....

that's creative thinking.
That's gotta be a bit easier than billet cases to house CR85 trans and take KLX topend, no?
That was such a BBR idea 4 years ago....
howabout you take a helicopter engine and stuff it into a peewee 50. thats more practical
Yeah, but all the good mig guys left, and there are a couple thousand idle CNC mills left here in the vacuum GM has left behind...
so maybe like a hayabusa engine in a moped? you could probably fit it in between the wheels

New here, or just stupid? Both?
i was joking. youre not gonna mix and match honda with yamaha. it cant happen
200cc "mini's" aren't all that rare, and as the power goes up, and weak links get worked through, new ideas pop up. Welcome to evolution. Embrace it or continue to exist beneath a mossy rock.
YX, with the help of US support, stuck a KLX110 top end on a Honda-based lower, and it seems to be working well...
No machinist needed. An outta the box $500 YX150/160 is available to anyone. Looks like they just modded the core boxes to add a bit more Chiluminum to the jug mount area, and VIOLA!
The Harley-Ferguson garb is to throw off the Knockoff-knocker-offers. Once it's got a 12/14 combo and some Monster graphics...
