I have a new battery, in neutral starter turns fast , I have had the side cover off and can see the gear behind the damper(I guess that’s what it’s called) turn but it will not turn motor over . I can bump start it easy no worries runs great . But will not start with starter???? Will not turn motor…??

By hand, see if the flywheel spins freely in both the clockwise and counterclockwise direction

Yes I can turn it both ways but you can feel it is turning motor over , not free spinning

I'm going to have to say that the one-way clutch (part #5, above) behind the flywheel is the culprit, and not engaging the big starter gear to spin the engine over.

I think so too disassemble and clean maybe replace
