After 35 years in a shed I got the xr75 running...but clutch not engaging so I assume plates are glued shut. Will pull the case and check it out..was wondering what guys use on the gasket (if anything) when replacing the gasket and cover for sealant? I Am hoping it's just the plates that are stuck as the lever pulls but nothing happens...real let down after hearing it run for the first time in 35 years. I rocked it back and forth trying to free the plates but nothing..any other thoughts? I'll know more once I pull the cover...thanks!

I usually paint a thin layer of permatex sealer on the clutch cover gasket as a double measure to keep it from seeping oil. That's just me. However, you don't have to use anything if you don't want to. The plates are stuck together. They usually do that after sitting for long periods of time. Once you get the side cover off just loosen the 4 bolts that hold the clutch plates and fibers in the basket, take a screwdriver and gently pry the plates apart then put everything back together and you should be fine.
