TB 88cc race head kit. im having some trouble with my tb kit that i just bought. its an 88 cc racehead kit. i installed it and it seems to bog when i hit the throttle hard. could this be because when i installed it i didnt put the black intake spacer in. im not sure if it goes in the top or bottom of the intake. here is a pic without it in.

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. sounds more like a jetting problem... but, that black "heat shield" spacer goes under the intake over the head. Put it on.

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. Check your cam timing 1st. 1 tooth makes a big difference. If that's all good, then to the carb.

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. could very possible be jets, the ccarby needs rejetting after the new gear,it is probly not getting enough fuel for the 88kit and thas why it is bogging and also the timing is very inportant

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. I have an tb88cc w/racehead that does the same thing. I haven't tried working on it yet. How does one check the cam timing? Is that done by finding TDC and a feeler gauge?

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. is it the heatsheild spacer or the black spacer that goes between the carb and the manifold that has the gasket on one side and oring on the other. either way if you put this kit on and didn't re jet it that is your issue and not having that spacer in will upset your jetting as well. make sure you have a good seal between the carb and intake and the intake and head or else you'll never get it right

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. timing being off, it will sound like a slowed down rev limiter. Hold it wide open not in gear, if it does that then its the timeing. Its most likely jetting. The carbs that they come with are practically impossible to get the bog out, its been done but there very touchy. If you can get your hands on a 19 mm nock off xr70 carb, your jetting issues will be over. 38 piolet and a 82 main and you will be mint.

no, sounds like what you were looking at is for a 26mm carb (that probably comes with their 117cc kits, etc). The TB 88 racehead kits come with a 20mm shengway carb. You'll need jets for that specific carb, but from that point you'll need to determine what size pilot jet you'll need for the 20mm shengway carb... like, 35 or 38 or 42 or whatever... just some example sizes of pilot (slow) jets. And, that size is dependant on your set-up/mods, your elevation, humidity, and climate, etc. It's 90% all trial and error, that is unless you can find somebody in your area with the same set-up and use their numbers as a baseline to go on. | |

Re: TB 88cc race head kit. I've been running the tb88rh kit for a while. I rejetted but still have a little bit of bog, nowhere near as bad as it was. read through this... it may help function of pilot jet when I posted this i was dealing with the "bog" your having problems. And yes the pilot was the main culprit.
