anodized or powder coat frame???????

I have a BBR style aluminum perimeter frame, should I powder coat it or have it anodized. I see some other guys on PM have powder coat there bike frames.I would think anodized is better on aluminum. What is better and or will last longer. I'm thinking black or red

Re: anodized or powder coat frame???????

I am not certain but if it was polished to a chrome finish then anodized red im thinking that would give the coolest effect! Just an idea.

It depends on what kind of look you want. Not sure what frame you have but with anodizing you pretty much have to have the frame polished or bean blasted to the texture that you want after the anodizing. Powder coating will cover up a lot of imperfections and might make a chinese perimeter look better.

I wonder if the bakeing process thats done after PC will mess up the china frame... or make it even more weak?

Re: anodized or powder coat frame???????

I would, if anything, expect the heat treatment to strengthen the frame...

Re: anodized or powder coat frame???????

its a certain process that makes metals more or less strong. The people I have talked to said that the 400 degrees that they bake the part at wouldnt hurt the heat treat process.

yea there are good powder coaters/paints and there are bad ones... just like everything else in this world. Being in CA you are sure to have some good ones around!

Re: anodized or powder coat frame???????

Powdercoat is much heavier, if that factors into your decision. Anodizing is lighter than regular paint.

I think anodizing looks better in my opinion, more trick, but powdercoat has its proper uses as well... take a bit more abuse in high friction areas. Powdercoat is much cheaper too, depending...

Re: anodized or powder coat frame???????

Anodizing anything looks good but it chips easily, powdercoating would be alot stronger and it looks great. If you have ever had or looked at anyones anodized wheels you'll notice that they are chipped form riding or changing tires,so keep in mind that if your dirt riding alot the anodizing may chip quite a bit from rocks and such.
