Re: bike failure at rockyhill

I saw at least 4 guys that had cracked Sparkplug caps

Never ever put Duct tape on a cracked cap...Duct tape is a very good electrical conductor

Use Electrical tape...then spend the $2.00 and get a new Cap...

if some of you guys haven't done so lately un-screw your cap and just take off a bit of the wire and re-screw it back on

and check for chaffed wires cause a short

hey i used duct tape and it worked fine, but i only used it as a cover to block the water out, it wasn't really touching anything

It does not make a good Tape around electrical connections or uses

Oldschool: Duct tape isn't a conductor in any fashion, unless you have some sort of metal backed/metal threaded/carbon threaded tape. Standard off the shelf duct tape is a very POOR INSULATOR. But it is an insulator, not a conductor.

In a pinch it'll work, as a good duct tape is waterproof as per it's original design. Duct tape was designed by/for the military as a need for a waterproof tape in the 50s(?).

Electical tape in a pinch like this is better but doesn't stick as well. WD-40 is a better choice if water is the culprit. WD stands for "water displacement". You'll probably have to apply it every moto and for the love of god, be careful until the evaporates dry, lest a fire be in your future!

Either way, don't use duct tape as an electrical tape, the tape it porus enough that electricty can go through the tape if provoked enough.

It is a less common practice to use duct tape as electrical tape, as it is not really suitable for that purpose. Duct tape conducts electricity "Allowing electricity to pass through it" making it particularly unsuitable as a substitute for electric tape

a Insulator "does not allow electricity to pass through it"

But who cares....I do have a degree in Science from Franklin Institute of Boston

its a ok temp fix...but its not one of the 1001 uses...

Actually an insulator is a material which has 4 or more electrons in the valance ring. and it seems that all the materials in standard duct tape do

it does not make a good Insulator as it allows Electricity to pass through it...Mr Google man

so Pass the 4 electrons out your @$$...
