| YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Things were getting confusing in my YSR/CRF conversion so I'm gonna split the two builds. My boss is almost done with this KR Replica ![]() ![]() ![]() Bodywork is almost done. R1 Master cylinder, EX650 Ninja front caliper, Harris Rearsets, Braced Swing Arm, 43mm Bore, TCR Exhaust and TCR Clip ons so far Last edited by elitexsenate; 05-16-2008 at 08:16 PM. | Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Installed the exhaust. Kinda Disappointed. ![]() The header is quality but the mufflers look like a 3 year old put them on in about 5 minutes. Still has hardware store numbers stamped on the aluminum. Hot glue filling the rivets. Very poor finish. I'll polish it out but for 260 OTD it should be ready to go... Just my 2 cents ![]() |

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Why hot glue, most people use silicone or RTV..... Other than that the exhaust looks good. Whats up with the right heal guard...... ~Shawn

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica is that a team calimari pipe? and its probally silicone not hot glue. and thats not a hardware store # its from when the tubing was made at the foundry. they just cut the tubing to length and put it on.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Silicone, sorry, I meant it is applied as though they used a hot glue gun. It's stringy and messy and thrown together. Regardles of where the stamps came from it's **** work in my opinion to not clean it up. The pipe is a Calamari and for the same price as a DG I was sad. Just disappointing that the last YSR parts manufacturer pumps out such shoddy work.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Shawn: The rearsets came from a GSXR600, the master cylinder normally sits in the space below the heel guard.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica I know that is the master bracket, but hes running drum brakes.... why didnt he cut it off? "Gixxer600, huh? Any specific year? You will need to make your own mounts. I got on the phone with vortex and told them how long i needed yhe rod to be and Chriswilder had random shifter shaft bracket. Wasnt really hard to do. ~Shawn

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica The build looks good. What was used on the motor head? High temp paint or powdercoat? I've been looking for a something similar and have had not had any luck.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica What brand high temp paint did you use Shawn? I've tried Kragen, Autozone, and Home Depot and have not found a high temp paint that looked goldish/bronze like that yet. I'm gonna go read your build thread for the 100th time again and check out your brakes.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica He didn't want to cut up the already powder coated pegs. He had to modify them to make it cable actuated. We use Miller Powder Coating in Rohnert Park. They are about 2 hours north of you Fourdoor. QUALITY WORK. Small update, bodywork was brought by to get the train tracks lined up ![]()

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Wow, if that's powdercoat on the head, I'm impressed. I heard that you need the special heat resistant type of powdercoat to do engine builds but the last time I read up about powdercoating engines, I was told there was only an ugly uneven black high temp powdercoat that worked. I may have to do that when I do my new motor this winter. If it's in Rohnert Park, it's more than a couple of hours away from me because of traffic and SF getting in between. I had a friend who went to Sonoma State for school and visited a few times.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Thanks Knucklehead Fourdoor: We've had everything from triumph 675 pegs to R1 frames powder coated with no problems. These guys are top notch. Call them because I'm pretty sure they ship. They have a GIANT wall of over 50 colors to choose from. I'm going to SSU now I used to live in San Jose though

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica Thanks for the info. I found a new powdercoat guy here in San Jose who's less than 10minutes away from my house. I didn't ping them about the high temp powdercoat stuff since I heard otherwise before but will definitely ask them now after seeing your boss's bike. Have you guys fired up the bike yet? Any discolorations in the powdercoat. I would much rather powdercoat than paint wherever I could. Good luck in SSU. Last time I visited there was years and years ago and got bored pretty quickly. Lots of fun hanging out at friends apartments drinking though. LOL

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica do you realize how much labor is in making that pipe? it is tig welded, so $260 out the door is a good deal.. and if you paid some one to polish them probally add $50+ to the total price. i make my own billet silencers similar to a toomey pipe. just my 2 cents.... hey i really like your bike looks bad a$$ Last edited by randomguy310; 07-02-2008 at 08:57 PM.

Re: YSR50/YZR500 Kenny Roberts Replica I'm just saying, they could have AT LEAST turned the lettering inward so you couldn't see them. And taken their time in applying the silicone. These almost appear as if the expansion chamber was manufactured somewhere else, then Calamari installed the rear two silencers, because there are two different qualities of metal and two different types of welds. Randomguy, you're defending these an awful lot, you wouldn't happen to be the guy who makes them ? :P haha, No worries I won't tell anyone. I'll polish them out and see how it goes. Stay tuned for the bodywork, that's all that's left to do.
