YSR Tires to 62 MPH max? :(

Is there a tire currently being made that is rated for a decent speed AND will fit on a YSR50 stock wheel?

Dunlop TT91 Rated @ 62 MPH (J rated)

Bridgestone BT601 SS Rated @ 62 MPH (J rated)

I plan to operate my YSR at speeds of around 65MPH on a regular sustained basis and sometimes bursts to around 75 Mph... I'm sure some of you have been over the rated speed before. Is there anything I should know before purchasing a set? My bike will be doing some traveling so the Harder the tire the better.

Anyone with experience in this matter I would love to hear from you!!!

I had 10 YSR's even water cooled 80's hit speeds of 105mph never had a tire problem. You should be just fine.I had stock tires on my street air cooled 80 it did 75+ never a tire problem.

Most tires are designed to explode if they are pushed 10mph over their stated rating.
Take your chances if you want, I have lost too many friends who pushed the envelope and died at 11-13mph. I understand it was cool to go a little faster on their bikes and on this earth.

Re: YSR Tires to 62 MPH max? :(

Granted I've never held my YSR above 60 mph for long periods of time (varied speed due to speed limit and traffic conditions). However, I've had my YSR well over 60+ mph many times.

On another note, my YSR also feels very stable at these speeds. Altho', keep in mind, I have all the suspension upgrades for a YSR, and change the fork oil yearly

Then again, there is Tony Tice's infamous YZR426 that he often ran on the BIG track. If he can race his YZR at high speeds, I don't think there should be a problem. However, of coarse, under these conditions, I am sure he went thru tires quite often (lol).

Nope dead guaranteed, it's in the manufacturers warranty.

I was joking, the tires hold up fine.

I've no idea what Sava's are rated for, but they've held up at 90mph ridden in anger.

Re: YSR Tires to 62 MPH max? :(

There are numerous 12in tires that are rated higher. Off the top of my head I know the Michelin Pilot Sport SC 12in tires are P rated (93mph).

Re: YSR Tires to 62 MPH max? :(

I have been able to hold 80mph constantly for about 4 miles with TT91s and no probs so far. But there ARE tires with a speed rating of about 100 mph. I will look them up and post links to them later.

Re: YSR Tires to 62 MPH max? :(

Here are some links to tires with a high speed rating. Make sure you get the right sizes. You might have to mix and match since some will have a good front size and others will have a good rear size. You can run a 130/70/12 for the rear, it will be just a little smaller in diameter than the 120/80/12. No biggie. for the front you might wanna go no bigger than 110/90/12 or 120/70/12, and even then you have to check for clearance with the front fender mounts.

Links to tires with high speed rating available in 12 inch sizes:
Avon Viper Stryke AM63 Tire - Chaparral Motorsports

Michelin Pilot City Urban Sport Scooter Tire - Motorcycle Superstore

Michelin Pilot SC Performance Scooter Tire - Motorcycle Superstore

Pirelli GTS 23/GTS 24 Mid Large CC Tire - Motorcycle Scooter Tires

Motor Scooter Performance Parts - Shinko 130/70x12 SR 007

These are only "L" rated, but they have a really cool flame pattern:
IRC WF-930 Wild Flare Tire - Motorcycle Scooter Tires

Also, here are the symbols and their speed limits:

J 62 MPH
K 68 MPH
L 75 MPH
M 81 MPH
N 87 MPH
P 93 MPH
Q 99 MPH
R 106 MPH
S 112 MPH
T 118 MPH
U 124 MPH
H 130 MPH
V 149 MPH
W 168 MPH
Y 186 MPH
