welding ysr frame?

I have my project ysr stripped down and am cleaning up the welds. Should i weld up all the factory spots that haven't been welded? Seems like they left quite a few areas that could were just stitch welded. Anyone brace these frames?? Where at?? Spent alot of time on this frame before powdercoating and am to the point of final cleanup. Any help is much appreciated. jake

Re: welding ysr frame?

I suggest "boxing" in the frame on the inside.

Not sure exactly what points you are talking about but many times stitch welds are less likely to fail if a crack begins in a weld.

Won't that add a ton of weight? I'd think if there is a structural problem maybe one more tube xmember could be used but boxing in adds alot of wait. Dave

Re: welding ysr frame?

I feel the stock welds on a YSR are adequate as long as you are using the original engine. When pushed, the stock frame flexes quit a bit. You can get alot of the flex out of the chassis by upgrading to bushing/bearing in the swingarm and shock. Fork brace and triple clamps for the front. This will all help. hope this helps you.

For my own safety I bolted the steering stem to a secure jig and used an over sized in length rear axle and put twisting stress on the frame from the swingarm and swingarm pivot point. I was really surprised by the flex near the steering neck and not having the frame "boxed" allowed the frame to twist a lot over all. I learned alot about the frame by doing this. Anyone doing a big motor upgrade I have a few video clips on this flexing and can send it out to you. Lets keep safety a big factor! Take it for what its worth. That is my .02 cents
