NSR 6 Spoke, a question of balance.

I returned from having my Michellin Sport SC's mounted on a pair of NOS wheels and the shop said they could not balance them due to the hub size. How critical is that with these size wheels and has anyone had luck with scooter or bikes shops?

Thanks,

Re: NSR 6 Spoke, a question of balance.

You could static balence them close enough.

It wasnt the hub size but more likely the bearing was too small to fit the axle on the balancer. Like ripper said, use your axle and static balance them, you'll be fine. Ask the shop for a couple stick on weights. Surprised they didnt do that for you.

Thanks fellas, sounds like the process is like balancing an aviation prop. Just put it on a crude stand and look for heavy spots?

I hear ya on the weights, sad thing is this is a mega dealer that has gobbled up many of the local shops (the Wal-Mart of stealerships).

There's a couple "how to" vids on youtube. Here's one.

However;to their credit they only charged $15 per wheel and did not put so much as a scratch in them. I was kind of expecting some unrequested modifications to my wheels but they survived unscathed!

Its plenty easy. Just make sure the wheel is clean so the weights stick good. I like to tape them on so I can move them around and use the least amount of weights possible. When satisfied peel and stick.

$15 a wheel is a good price, especially to get unscratched wheels back.

I agree, I certainly pay more for 250/450 tires and god help ya if you did not buy the tires from 'em (as was the case with these).

Thanks for the video and I happen to have some extra bearings and a long swing arm pivot bolt that should do the trick.

Re: NSR 6 Spoke, a question of balance.

jmurray, It's nothing special yet, a not so clean stocker with a Lifan and a decent pipe and rearsets. In the next couple of months I plan to start the real build. I'll post up in the ZB section but I doubt it will be a certified trophy winning ride like yours!

Cyclerider57, After reading the exchange between you and Z regarding secret departments, I plan to take a closer look inside those tires... Thanks again for two flawless transcations.

Re: NSR 6 Spoke, a question of balance.

My buddies shop, Redline Motorsports in Berlingame CA was able to balance my NSR wheels on his balancer so there are setups out there that can do it. You just need to go to the right place.

Static balancing works just fine though

Anytime Mike, I have a set new in the box if you seriously need some.... I would let them go at cost.
