Lifan 150cc into my YSR

I had originally posted this on an inferior site... I don't go there anymore so I thought I would post this up here. This is not the horizontal lifan engine. It is the vertical one from the enduros. I have been working on this since right around when Shawn started his, but I don't have a lot of time or money to work on it. Between work, driving to/from work, Swim Training and Helping other people with their stuff. So far I have removed the YSR50 parts down to the frame and I have just completed the rough mounts for the new engine. I have a few pics. I plan to use this to ride back and forth to work this summer and on nice days. My work is about 35 miles away so I don't want to run the original 2 stroke engine. (It is going on a stand up scooter instead) The Wiring harness is being taken from the donor bike as well

Here are some pictures:
The first one is the 07 Lifan Donor Bike

Suggestions and comments welcome!!!

Re: Lifan 150cc into my YSR

From what I have read it will do 12.74 HP and 7.376 LBF Feet of Torque. That is with the Chinese Carb and Stock everything. I really just wanted the Torque for the mountains.

That's the pushrod version, not much hop-up potential. Bolt pattern the same as XR/CRF150-200-230?

I am not sure. I never really mess with Off Road vehicles. I build street bikes, but I was given this for Free... Does anyone know the Gear Ratios for these engines?

Cool!

Keep us informed of the progress of your build and final results.

Some day soon, I too hope to build a 200cc Lifan or XR (which ever I can get me hands on) to stuff in my YSR. Which means, I will be selling my Derbi/Metrakit 72cc motor

Do you have a template of the mounts you mocked up?

Re: Lifan 150cc into my YSR

I would like to let everyone know that my bike is up and running. I went on a test drive early Saturday morning for the first time and the sprocket combo was Waaaay off. I would accelerate to 5th gear and top out @ 45 MPH... Not cool So I went and got a taller sprocket from APF... A local motorcycle junkyard and rode it about 20 miles to my grandmothers house in Madera Ca from Fresno Ca... Fun Times!!! New sprocket on the way I am hoping for freeway speeds with ease I will post up some videos after I get it finished. I still have to get the bottom fairing on, attach blinkers, paint the bike, re-sprocket the rear and install my 12V battery. Then I should be good to go!!!
I will take some pictures tonight of what is done so far!
Questions and Comments would be appreciated

What sprocket combo are you running? are you having trouble running the lower fairing? mine is fine. Never seen that prob, i know you said something to me before about that.

Right now I am running a 17/36 @ 428 sprocket combo and it tops out FAST!!! For some testing I put it in 5th gear and pulled up some overpasses starting at 3500 RPM and it still pulled it right up. I found myself shifting 1st to 3rd then 5th skipping 2nd and 4th gear. Using that handy calculator I decided on a 15/26 @ 428 sprocket combination which sounds crazy but it’s what will work. My bike will be ridden on road and mostly in a highway/freeway environment with speeds of 55-70 MPH... I have got it to 63 MPH as it is geared now and it ran out of RPM's

I can't get my lower fairing on because I have not made an exhaust for it yet. I was running the stock Lifan header @ 2.5 feet long with a bolt on muffler from a 50cc 2 stroke I got from the motorcycle junkyard for a couple bucks and hack sawed apart. I found someone who is going to make me a custom exhaust out of 1.1/4" tubing with a muffler that will go down the front, under the bottom fairing and between the engine and stick out a little before the rear tire to the right just a little so I don't scrape it.

After over 50 miles of total ride time so far I feel confident in this bike more than when it had the 50cc 2 stroke. Its nice to know everything is new too!!! Next I order new bearings and brake pads just to make sure everything rolls nice and smooth. I don't want to take any chances.

When CHP does come after me I will show them that my engine is Technically 149.4cc therefore .4 of a cc more than 149cc making it highway and freeway legal for California! Everything else is within the legal limits as well. Just not practical limits. I will be riding with packs of other riders so I will be seen and I will stay towards the middle of the pack. If this doesn't work I am moving up to my 2 stroke 250cc KDX engine. which should throw me into a wheelie in ANY gear!!!

Re: Lifan 150cc into my YSR

be sure to share pix of the motor mounted into the YSR too, and also close-ups of the motor mounts and exhaust for others that plan to a similar transplant.

ps, I'm leaning to do the 200cc motor

Thanks

Look for the version with screw-in valve cover caps like a 50 if you plan mods.

Re: Lifan 150cc into my YSR

The engine mounts were simple... I will get some pics up after I improve it a little. Right now the thing will vibrate the whole bike like crazy when @ 7,000 rpm or above. Its like those foot vibrators at the state fair, my feet want to come off the pegs. I bought some rubber hose washers 12x for $1.97 and im going to put those between the engine and frame. Pics to come I have been working 12 hour days and driving 1 hour each way so I only have time on weekends. My valve covers bolt in with 2-4? 8mm bolts. I love everything about the 150cc. Less weight, more air circulation, good power and best of all cheap replacement cost. I usually put about 15-20,0000 miles on a bike a year so I will be buying a new crate engine for Christmas.

Re: Lifan 150cc into my YSR

It seems that my family and a few friends are planning on going to santa cruz this weekend... I am thinking that if my sprocket comes in on time (friday) I will take the noob bike on its first long distance run!
