| 70cc kit install Anyone have links for a good step by step on installing a top end? I got the big bore 70cc kit from Athena and don't know how to install it. Some how to sites with pics would be nice. or is this something I should take into a shop? |

| Re: 70cc kit install It isn't that hard... but if you have never done it before, then I would say take it to a shop. The hardest part of doing it, is getting the "C" clips on the piston, everything from there is CAKE and just need to torque down all the bolts! Also, I would toss out the thick head gasket and modify a stock one to fit, you'll get higher compression and that = a little more power! Did you have your head cut to match the new cylinder?? If not, the squish will be off and the power won't be as good. Call Billy Wiese, of WRW Racing, and have him do it for ya, cheap and the man knows his stuff when it comes to NSR motors! |

I just want the extra kick of 70cc vs 50cc. IF i was racing and had lots of spare cash... lol oh what I would do. right now I'm having enough problems just getting my NSF bodykit to fit and that isn't a hard job. If it was audio/video or computer related, no problem, when it comes to mechanical thats where I am a little unsure. I don't even know what half the parts are that you mentioned. Also i need to find out how to and what is a "jet" as I will need to "re-Jet" it i guess

| Re: 70cc kit install Big mistake to not have the head matched to the new setup. Power will be off, if it doesn't hit. Gonna be harder to jet that way too. Cases don't have to be bored with 70 Athena kit? Mike _thedontknow****aboutminibikes_man??? |

Before I bought the kit I contacted the Athena sales department directly. I asked if the kit could be just bolted on. They told me it could but I would get more out of it if I did a carb and pipe. ... As for the cute little name above, I am asking for info on this forum because I am not a pro at this stuff and was looking for info/advice.... If I was was an all knowing/all-seeing minibike guru (and keyboard warrior) like you must be then I could go around making snide comments and very very cleaver play on names. I you have nothing useful to say don't, keep the name calling for your buddies at the A$$-clown convention. Thanks for coming out Last edited by Mike_the_minibike_man; 08-24-2008 at 05:15 PM.

| Re: 70cc kit install Okay, like Firepower said, you'll NEED/want to get the head cut, if not the piston might hit the head because it wasn't shaped for that cylinder! What the Athena rep told you is that it is a bolt on mod, he is right as you just bolt on the cylinder and snap in the new piston. They leave out things like setting up squish, jetting, etc because that all will depend on what carb you use and where you care located (temp, elevation, humidity, etc all play a roll in that). Here are a few pic's of my Athena kit when I had a 2 stroke... you can see the head was cut, the dome area on the head is deeper, and wider then the stock head. Take a look at your stock one -vs- mine that has been cut, there is a HUGE difference! You need to call WRW racing and talk to Billy Wiese, he will point you in the right direction.. 512-470-0442 Also, I used a 24mm round slide carb with a 128-130 main jet. You can get that carb from Sudco (google them) for under or right at $100!!! Believe me, you won't want to use the stock carb! Also, call Team Calamari up and order a 1/4 turn throttle, cheap and will be better throttle response then the stock unit! You'll need to change out the stock clutch springs with aftermarket ones. Use a CR80 clutch spring with the stock NSR clutch fibers, and steels. If you use your stock clutch springs, you'll burn up your clutch as soon as ride 1000 feet! The stock Reeds can be used, but since I raced mine I had Boysen (sp?) carbon fiber dual stage reeds, they worked great for the power down low and up top! Anyway, shoot me a PM if you want more info on where to send your stock head. It isn't a racer mod, it is a mod that you'll want done to get that kit to work out right. These are things that you still need to get, if not done already... 1, have the stock head cut to match the new Athena cylinder ($50-70) 2, get bigger carb with different jets (around $100) 3, get 1/4 turn throttle and cable ($25-30) 4, get gasket set and have stock head gasket cut to use with new cylinder 5, get new clutch springs (from a CR80) ($30) 6, have someone install everything for you! Make sure you torque down everything! 7, fill up oil, water and fuel and go ride! Here are the pic's.. My stock head, cut to match the 70cc Athena kit. ![]() Getting ready for the install of the new cylinder... ![]() New cylinder installed with bigger piston.. ![]() My head is on top, the cylinder is below that! ![]() Here is a pic of the new Athana cylinder being installed, with the stock head gasket on top of it, it will give you more power because it is thin! ![]() Here is a pic with my head, reeds and intake on the bike... ![]() Here is a pic with the 24mm round slide carb, and you can see the new throttle cable... ![]() This pic shows that I'm putting in a new clutch and springs.. ![]() |

| Re: 70cc kit install Alright that kit is not the water cooled bbk that you need. That is an air cooled kit that looks to be for the MB5 if I am correct. Do not try and install that on your NSR!! |

| Re: 70cc kit install Yeah, that is an air cooled kit, and it looks like it is for a YSR not a NSR! That sucks! They should be able to give you the right thing... |
