Re: sprockets? yes it makes a difference... the 50 is already lighter so with the power change it is a big change... i go up or down on the front pinion for stunting or street riding...

Re: sprockets? I have a TB 88cc, any ideas on what sprocket would be best? The one I have on there is like a 30 tooth or smaller, first gear wheelies are okay, but in second you really get movin. I have a few other sized sprockets layin around, I am just too lazy to try them all out.

Re: sprockets? doesn't the bigger sprocket in the rear make it have more top speed? Or is it the other way around? I know on my bmx i ran a smaller front sprocket for doing crooked grinds and it had more acceleration but topped out after 10 pedals.

Re: sprockets? On my main stunt bike its basically stock motor and went to a 15t front only and 1st is still useless, 2nd is just as good and maybe a bit better since you can carry a lil more speed and 3rd is real good for longer distance stuff. I gained 5mph topend swapping to that 1 tooth bigger in front. I think the street tires got me 1mph as well out of that. I typically ride alot of "to&from's" around town and such so the extra topend really helped out and 3rd gear comes up just as easy as before. It is all in the timing. I will say though it doesnt pull up to BP like it used to when the nose starts to fall. Only in 3rd though. 2nd has plenty to never really let the nose drop. I think this is really ideal. I just got an 88 kit'd bike more made for dirt and the stock gearing was a joke and even now the 15t front i swapped today helped a bit but this thing just wants to haul and gear runs out way to fast(i think most 88 kits double the hp and sometimes triple it with a head) so personally for the same urban riding with some distance i am going to be going to a 30 or something close for the back to get me roughly 50mph and the bike still has plenty of tq to wheelie. Hate hearing the bike all wound out when it cleary can go alot more.

Re: sprockets? I have asked before as well and either way makes the same difference from what I heard. The front only i believe is equivelant to 2.5 teeth in the rear or close to it. The front sprocket is half the price as a rear as well so typically most change that first. The rear is just a finer adjustment on a per tooth scale.

Re: sprockets? On my 125 stunt build, I run a 16/30 gearing on it. Still has all the torque you need, but is super smooth like a stock fiddy, just alot faster. On my 88 stunt build, (no race head) I run a 14/34 gearing. Like the 125, super smooth and very usable power, even in first gear. Most everything I do is in first gear on the 88 and the 125. The manual clutch on both of them also changes the primary gearing a bit. It's all trial and error, what works for one, might not for others. So you have to swap out sprockets till YOU find what you like and will work for you... As Shawn said earlier, stock motor + stock gearing = win. For him that is ever so true. Circle combos, straight line combos, or anything else you can think of, he can do, and does it smooth as silk... But, I can't even get the front off the ground like that... I have run thru some gearing to find that happy spot. From 13,14,15,&16 on the front, and 30,34,35,39,40,&45 on the back.

quik tip. do the front sprocket as it is half the price and roughly equal to 2.6 teeth in the rear change. could buy 2 front to play with instead of 1 rear incase your unhappy. I wouldnt swap for anything less then a 1 tooth front or 3 tooth change for the rear. I like my 15/37 for stock bike. This new 88 kit bike needs alot more then the 15/37 on it now but I ride mainly streets and nothing with huge hills or needing crazy accel out of corners for racing | |
