CR85 Problems, won't run!

Taking a look at a bike for a friend, had a recent to end job from the dealer. The bike ran for awhile, then started cutting out. Now it doesn't want to start and when it does it just can't rev up. I checked;air filter, gas flow, compression, and verified the spark while kicking it over. Could it still be something electrical "coil" maybe, or what should I do next ? Thanks.

Check the coil and then check the reeds. Is the gas old or an incorrect mixture? You may also want to take the carb apart and clean it good. Make sure the jets are clear of obstructions. Those are some things to start with. Its hard to solve a problem like this when the bike isnt in front of me. Good Luck

OK, so how/what is the correct way to verify if the coil is good. Do check resistance and continuity ?

Can you pull the plug, ground it against the cylinder and then kick the bike over. While you are kicking it over you should see spark.

even with spark the plug could be fouled. 2-smokes eat plugs like a fat lady at the buffet...try a new plug first, then check for loose grounds and such

change out the plug and how long have you ridden it is it broken i yet cause dealers mix the fuel really rich might wan to drain it and mix what you would normally also if it still happens check the reeds they may need to be replaced good luck

Yep new plug installed, not starting. Pulling the carb off now, has to be fuel related....maybe the reeds are not right.....we'll see.

if the reeds are open just a little bit you can kick that thing all day long and it will never start i had it happen to me just take them out and flip them over and that should work unless they are chipped or broken

Flipping them over is a good idea to see if they are the problem but make sure you do replace them in the very near future. They do not last nearly as long after you flip them.

Took apart the carb and reeds, inspected both. They seemed fine. Took the exhaust pipe off, found coolant collected in the first bend of the pipe. Looks like the head gasket is leaking bye........

it sounds like u have stuck floats. if the reeds are good and u have spark then u should be able to get it started. it should start with coolant in it unless theres tons of it. make sure u have the pilot circuit comletly clean

my 85 goes through plugs all the time, espically if your mix is rich.. Oh make sure your running 92 octane. It really needs it.
Those cr 85 will take a beating tho and ask for more. Ive crossed small rivers and even lost it once in a mud/pond completely drowning my bike. Oil change is all I really had to do, clean motor a bit but still impressed I didnt mess nothing up.

Wow!

My CR85 is ultra-reliable! I hardly go through plugs at all, and I run 32:1, not too rich but still. I've fouled 3 plugs total since I bought it at the beggining of 05'...
