CRF150F - Disappointment??

I just purchased a brand new (left over) 2006 CRF150F for my wife. I had never ridden one before but thought this would be a great bike for her to ride along with myself and our three boys.

I heard a lot about this bikes and how much fun they are to ride. I got it home and took off down the street with it and was terribly disappointed. It was very mellow, it ran like a pooch and had no hit at all.

I search the web and found how they are delivered very lean in stock form and that the air filter snorkel needs to go. I pulled the filter cover and re-jetted the bike. I also pulled the silencer out but didn't like it loud so I put it back in.

Well, that helped but this thing still won't pull the front tire up (without dumping the clutch) no matter how hard I tried.

Is this normal? The boys and I had raced MX for years and are used to hard hitting 2-strokes so maybe I am just expecting too much??

I thought the kids would like to ride this but I think they will be happier on their CR85's??

I realize that this is just a play bike but I thought the 150 would have enough grunt to throw a decent roost or climb a decent hill but I don't see this thing doing it??

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

nope it is nothing close to an 85, its a trail bike that doesn't have any hit at all. the reason it has no hit is that it weighs as much as a 450 and only has 10hp

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

I guess I should have rode one before laying down the cash.....Oh well, it is for my wife and as long as she is happy with it all is good.

I was hoping the kids and I would get to do some "pit bike" racing with it but I just don't see that happening much.

I don't want to put money into anytime soon but what other mods could be done to it once she starts getting bored with the stock power?

Thanks

Sell it, trade it in, pawn it off on an unsuspecting neighbor then get her the 150 "R" version, she will love it!

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

ill be surprised if she can pick it up when it gets stuck in the mud and besides the 150r will be too fast for her if she doesnt have some experience before the 150f.

And require twice as much maintenance from what I've heard. The 150 F is more like a CRF 50 for adults who want to learn who to ride. There are a lot of aftermarket options for them though as she learns the ropes.

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

I talked to the wife and she just confessed that she thought it was too wimpy for her too.... She grew up riding an old KE175 so she has some experience.

She rode it before I rejetted it so maybe that will help?? We have only rode it up and down the street I am scared how bad this thing will be in the dirt, or mud!!

Does the '06 have more power than the older motor styles that were in the '04 & '05 bikes? What about the 125TTR, is it even worse??

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

the bike isnt bad on trails...
it was my first bike and it was good to learn on, got me in shape, but i out grew it really fast...
i went from that to a kx125...
if she is an experienced rider then that bike is too wimpy for her...
i would suggest moving up to somthing like a 250f or x if she can fit it, or a 150R if she fits that.

Re: CRF150F - Disappointment??

So, let see how this might work out. If this bike has 10 hP (for the sake of arguement let's say it has 12HP) THEN.....

CRF150F = 12 HP
CRF100F = 10 HP
CRF80F = 8 HP
CRF70F = 7 HP
CRF50F = 6 HP
My power washer = 5 HP

Where is the best place to start with mods? I don't want to make it loud but there has to be a decent exhaust out there. I can lose the O-ring chain - what else can I do??
