150F Jetting Help

Where to most people end up jetting a stock 2006 CRF150F.

I have removed the air box cover but left the spark arrestor in (I thought it was too loud without it).

I changed it to a 115 main and put in the dealer recommended 16012-KPT-921 needle in, 1 clip richer from the middle (I think it was the third groove from the top).

I had to order a 42 pilot but I haven't got it yet.

It seems to run pretty good now but I haven't tried anything else....

Also, 2 other things, the white plastic deflector that goes around the main was in my float bowl. It must have fallen off because it seems kind of loose. Is this worth putting back on?

And, there are 2 small cover plates on the outside of the carb. I assume one of these is the idle mixture adjustment. What is the easiest way to get it off?

Thanks!!

I'm getting ready to dig into one also. So I'll post up any extra info I can gain once I check this one out.

The frist groove from the top in lean so there for you want go down to 4 groove from the top

What is the reason, what is it for? I think it is too loose to stay on.

Re: 150F Jetting Help

Re: 150F Jetting Help

The covers on the carb aren't plastic. They are thin steel.

But it doesn't matter anyway. I figured out where the idle mixture screw is at and it isn't behind them. It is behind and underneath the carb, not the easiest place to get access and just to make it a real challenge Honda used a special "D" shaped screw...

Now, I just need to figure out where I can get the tool to adjust the D shaped screw and how I can even get it in there. Any suggestions or tips??

Go to any Honda dealer especially ones that have done alot of Jet Kits in street bikes.
Most dynojet or Factory tuning jet kits came with a tool to adjust the fuel mixture screw. I'm sure most line mechanics will have a few of them lying around. I have about 20 of them in my tool box.
If you don't find one, let me know and I can give you one.

Re: 150F Jetting Help

OK....Here is where I ended up. It is still a little cold here so I might have to play with this thing some more once it warms up??

I removed the air box cover.

I changed the main to a 115 and put in the dealer recommended 16012-KPT-921 needle, clip in the 4th groove down.

I also replaced the 40 pilot with a 42. Dealer did not suggest this but I think it made a big difference. Idles smoother and pulls off the bottom easier. I even had to lower the idle, that is a good sign.

I removed the "BAFFLE", NOT the spark arrestor and drilled some 1/4" holes in the plate so it could flow air better. Then put it back in. It can be tight to pull out but just grab it, wiggle it and it will slide out.

The "BAFFLE" is removed by the single torx screw on the back of the silencer. LEAVE THE SPARK ARRESTOR IN. AND Don't completey remove the baffle - it's too loud and there isn't any real performance improvement over just drilling some holes in it.

I am still waiting on a better air filter that I ordered (Twin Air). That may balance out the the jetting once it warms up.

I still need to fine tune the idle mixture. I am waiting on a d-shaped tool before I can do that.

But the bike runs SOOO much better then it did stock. It also has to run cooler and have less wear then the way it was because it was so lean.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with yours!!
