Talking Recently aquired a few CT70s

Hi all. I was referred here by "big pete". He posted some pics and a link to here, on a thread at Honda-Tech.com. I don't know a thing about "minis" but love 'em.

After aquiring the below pictured CT70s and various parts, I began searching for info. It's insane, the number of different types of cool minis and mods to them! You all are nuts! I like it! I ought to be able to join this obsession!

Our plan is to end up with 4 good running bikes, one for my wife, son, daughter and myself. They will be able to choose their own colors and mods. We'd like to get one running, to cruise around the yard and neighborhood, while we work on the others. Before I dive in, I want to learn more.

Re: Recently aquired a few CT70s

Pete steered you in the right direction.

Building CT70's can be anywhere from cheap to very, very expensive depending on how far you want to take the builds.

I always tell everyone the same thing if they ask...

Create a master list with all the parts you want, and all the parts you need and put it into a spreadsheet. Then find the parts and map the expenses. You'll find you either have a budget left, or completely underestimated how much parts cost for these bikes. Most people are shocked when they come to find out their $200 CT70 can cost a fair amount to restore or restomod.

I build mine on the expensive side, but tend to look at things differently then most. It's cheaper then a classic car hobby, and they don't take up much space.

Glad to have you around, enjoy the ride, and keep the rubber side down.

Re: Recently aquired a few CT70s

Thanks for the welcomes! And also the "heads up". The buddy I bought them from warned me about the price to finish them. I was like "naaa" because I had found some cheapo parts. Then I ran across the original stuff...whew...

But to your points ,

I'll hang around and see what I can learn and then try to come up w/ a plan. The problem is, I already have the kids fired up about doing this...lol

lots of work and lots of fun ahead, my advise would be to fix them enough so that they run and then you can mod them from there.

The bikes seem to be in pretty good, restorable shape.. Your buddy was right about how much you'll spend, even a budget build adds up quick.. Keep us posted on your progress...

Thanks for the welcome. I put up some pics in my gallery. Nothing really exciting, just a quick view of what I picked up.

It would be a shame to have them sit and not be ridden. Use whatever parts you can afford at the time and get them running. Then worry about making them nice.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Recently aquired a few CT70s

You could throw that chineese engine in one to get a runner while you work on the rest.

That's what I'm thinking too. Maybe throw that motor on the yellow one or green one that don't have a motor, git rrrr done. Use it to learn as I also keep reading on here, then get the next most complete one running. Like some others have suggested, so I don't just let them sit. Having a couple running will fuel my interest further and keep me inspired. (good in theory)

Thanks for the comments and welcomes!

Before you know it, you'll have all 6 of the runnnig. At least one will be a hot rod.
Remember, "budget build" is never what it was intended to be.
