New here w/ a question Hello all, My name is Daniel and I've been lurking around here for a while. I've been looking for a small bike for a while now and I've found some very useful info on this site. At first I was looking at some of the chinese knockoff's such as the apollo/orion bike because of the price, but after reading some of the posts I feel I may be better looking into a used Honda/Kawi/Yamaha, etc. My question is, I've found a 1998 Honda CR80R for $800.00 on craigslist and I wanted to see what you all thought? This "big-wheeled" version of Honda's CR80 is also known as an Expert. With a 6-speed gearbox being powered by this superlight 2-stroke, this dirtbike is extremely fast, and agile. This bike is big enough to be comfortably ridden by a grown man, large kid, or a very advanced smaller kid. This bike is in good working condition. Front tire has about 3/4 tread remaining, rear about 1/2 ![]() Thanks, DC

Re: New here w/ a question Well that kinda defeats the purpose of a "mini" on a 50 people know you ride minis, on an 80 people will just think your a retard on a bike too small for you. Dont waste your money on that bike, im guessing your not that small and in that case you will have to rebuild the top end every year or so depending how hard/often you ride it. Look around for a used crf50, or if you want a bigger look for a crf70 or a klx110. Stay away from all knockoff brands, if you cant afford the real deal then you probably cant afford the hobby.

I guess I should have been more clear in my first post. The main reason I'm looking for a smaller bike is for my girlfriend. She has never been on a motorcycle and she wants to learn how to ride. I thought this would be a practical way to get her on one. I'm not looking to race the bike or stunt it (I have a gixxer 600 for that). As far as looking like a retard, this bike will be ridden on my private property, so when I'm riding my g/f and & God will be the only one laughing. I'm not looking at getting into a new hobby either. I just want to know if this is a decent deal on a used bike. I can afford what ever I want, I choose not to put a lot of money into any that will probably go down within the first two hours of ownership. Thanks, DC | |

Re: New here w/ a question that changes everything. if she knows how to use a clutch the 80 would be good, but if not maybe get her something a bit more relaxed. those 80's are kinda hyper. a crf150r would be a great bike.

Re: New here w/ a question a 98 cr80? if it's not too beat up and it runs good. then yeah, you did get a pretty good deal for $800. however, i don't know if it's the best bike to start your girlfriend on. it may appear to be a kids bike, but those 2-stroke 80's are pretty quick and have a mean power band! not saying that she won't be able to ride it, but maybe a small 4-stroke would have been better. like a ttr 125, xr 100 etc.
