Title help please.. Long story short...Had the orginal Illinois title for 16 years and never put in my name. So i give the title to a friend at work to have it notarize out of the origanal owners name into mine, he has a notary that will do it because im in Ohio. And low and behold he runs the damn thing through the washer. I am so pissed. There is nothing left of it. Im ready to kill this guy. I call Illinois BMV no help at all. I had this title for fo years in my papers now i have nothing. The bike is not hot cuz im the second owner. Im at a loss for words. Can i use something like this or can i get a salvage title ? Ohio bmv is no help either. Thanks Tony eBay Motors: New Blank MSO (item 350068754199 end time Aug-07-08 19 06 PDT)

Re: Title help please.. I'd file for a lost title. If it's 16 years old, it's probably not even in the DMV system (in California they drop out after 7 years)

Re: Title help please.. Right, but basically since it's been so long it's like registering it all over again - it doesn't matter that it wasn't in your name before, because they have no record of the bike existing anymore.

Re: Title help please.. in CA after 7 years of not being registered it drops out of the system. If it was never titled in Ohio, it won't be there anyway. Load it in in your truck and go down there. Here you would fill out some paperwork, explain the title is lost on a "statement of facts" and have one of the people there inspect it. worse case scenario you'd have to take it to the highway patrol or state trooper office and they'd give their blessing after running the numbers. go back to DMV and get your title. this might be the same process if you had that old title.
