New Project Turning A Klx125 Into A Race Machine! Well I Was Bored 1 Day And Found A Guy 3 Hrs South Of Me Selling A 05 Klx125 Cheap. Figuired I Needed A New Project Since I Will Be Getting Knee Surgey In A Few Weeks, This Should Keep Me Busy For Awhile. I Picked The Bike Up For $1000. Here Are My Plans. Yz85 Front Forks, Yz85 Front Wheel And Disc Brake Setup. Out Back I Am Going To Swap The Shock Out For A New Showa Cr85 Setup And Also Going With The +1 1/2" Swingarm (off The Big Wheel Version). I Am Also Going With The Bbr Cradle Just To Insure No Frame Stretching. Ok Now For The Engine, Well The Head Has 30/26 Valves So I Am Gonna Go 32/26 With Custom Springs And Retainers. I Am Gonna Go 190cc On The Bore Using The Stock Crank. Megacycle Custom Cam, Pvl Inner Rotor Ignition, Pe28 Carb, PRO CIRCUIT T-4 PIPE And A Whole Different Clutch Setup. This Thing Should Be A Tank When It's Done. I Will Have 10" Of Travel Front And Rear. I Will Post Some Pics Of The Process So Anyone Wishing To Convert There Klx/drz125 In To A Race Machine Can Get An Idea How Easy It Is. I Allready Have The Suspension Allmost Done And Next Will Be The Engine. Here Is A Stock Pic Of The Bike When I Recieved It.

Re: New Project Turning A Klx125 Into A Race Machine! Here You Go Please Dont Drool On The Keyboard Lol. THE BIKE USES THE 17/14 WHEEL COMBO. IF I GO 16/19 I HAVE TO RACE THE BIG BIKE CLASS. I WILL RAISE THE FRONT FORKS UP A TAD ONCE I GET THE LONGER SWINGARM. Last edited by HACKMUNCH; 11-03-2007 at 08:06 AM.

Re: New Project Turning A Klx125 Into A Race Machine! Cool start, Dom. How is it size-wize compared to a "regular" 85? I might rethink my CRF230 motor in a CR85. Was the front end a straight swap?

Re: New Project Turning A Klx125 Into A Race Machine! Very cool, I look forward to following this build as I am getting a DRZ/TTR/KLX 125 real soon. Just to be clear they all are pretty much the same bike,(power, aftermarket support, suspension adaptability) correct? Looks great so far, whats the final goal HP wise? Dirt or pavement?

Re: New Project Turning A Klx125 Into A Race Machine! they are not all the same, the klx and drz are the exact same bike but the ttr is not. you can go 190cc on the klx/drz but only 150cc on the ttr. ttr does not use an oil filter but the klx/drz does. on the klx/drz engine you can straight swap out any 26 or 28mm carb right on the stock manifold, on the ttr you must buy a new manifold to accept these carbs. the only thing i dont like about the klx/drz engine is the rev limiter, it is low at 9500rpms but the pvl ignition will get rid of that. megacycle also has some bad as$ cams for the klx/drz. as for suspension the yz85 forks are a straight swap with the stockers, took about 15min to swap them over. as for the showa cr85 rear shock, that was a tad harder as i had to drill and tap the lower mount holes on the shock as it is 1 3/8" longer than stock. still no biggie but now the suspension is kickas$ at 10" of travel front and rear. as for HP output of the 190cc set up, i would think i would be happy with 18hp, engines only says with megacycles race cam and pvl ignition they hit 21hp but i think that might be a tad overboard.
