KX100 fork spring rates?

Anybody know what the spring rates are for stock KX100 forks? I'd need to know that, and what the optional heavy springs are rated at that Kaw sells. I'm trying to match the Kaw fork springs with the optional heavy rear shock spring available for a CRF150RB. Thanks-- L*64

racetech.com tells you sizes of springs they offer and what comes stock in what bike.

Re: KX100 fork spring rates?

heaviest i could find for my kx100 forks where .33kg/mm from race tech. They where not heavy enough for me. BBR makes a set for the crf150r at .44kg/mm they seem to be working perfect for me and a 6.2kg/mm rear spring for the 150r or 140L shock which is working great for me too.. Race tech also has a wide selction of fork and rear shock springs for the crf150r. Point blank best thing to do is CRF150R forks (cause they have wider spring selection and more adjustments than KX forks) and spring a KLX140L shock with a CRF150R spring of your choice (either stock or aftermarket spring.) Also have to think that the KLX140 is probably heavier than the CRF150R, so if your spring rate is right for the 150R dosent mean its exactly right for the 140.

Exactly what my bike is. KLX140L. CRF150R front forks, .44 BBR springs. Stock KLX140L rear shock with 6.2 BBR spring. Put small wheels on bike also. 17/14

Re: KX100 fork spring rates?

Hey C-Mad, You've held out long enough-- we wanna check out the ride in it's present state, let's see some pics!

I may have to run the Honda forks util somebody makes springs to make the KX100 forks work properly. Probably Minibike Springs will come out with something. I'd bet that somebody will make a top tree to accept the electric start button bracket too.

What did you do to the front fender to fit the Honda tree? Redrill the mounting holes? I could use a KX85 front fender, but it looks antiquated, and it would't really jive with the KLX lines. Somebody needs to either make a fender that doesn't have the holes already drilled, or... I was thinking about using a KLX125 front fender that isn't pre drilled. I could trim and shape the back to work with the 140. The shape of the KLX125 fender would be good with the lines of the 140. Anybody know who makes a fender for the KLX125 that you have to drill your own mounting holes into? --L*64

Re: KX100 fork spring rates?

i am currently using a black crf150r front fender. dont like it to much though. I used the same on off switch bracket that i made for the kx on the crf trees. worked out better on the kx trees cause of the v shape. I get some pics up tonite.

Re: KX100 fork spring rates?

Hmmm... I already tried the crf150R front fender. I have a stock front fender sitting around, so I kinda put it on the KLX with one screw just to see how it looked. It kinda looked bogus because of how it arches way up, then points back down. I thought it may have looked bunk because it was red, and the bike is green. But using a white or black CRF fender was what I was originally thinking I was going to do. I'll decide better after I see how it looks on your bike. Get a pic from the dead on side view.

As far as the bracket goes-- I was going to have a welder I know grind down the original CRF # plate mount on the top CRF bridge, then weld two pieces of aluminum "spooling" to the tree to tap, and accept the stock starter button bracket. I was going to have him make the spools an inch long, then grind them to the same length as the piece that held on the CRF plate originally-- then tap them to accept the starter button bracket from the KLX. If you do that, then the KLX # plate will fit perfectly on the CRF forks-- I spent some time measuring all of that. One other thing-- you'll have to take a Dremel, and make the diameter of the knob that's on the bottom of the stock KLX # plate a bit smaller to fit it into the holder on the bottom CRF clamp. The only mod then will be a couple of short little sections welded to the top CRF tree, then tapped to accept the KLX bracket. Front end DONE! --L*64

Re: KX100 fork spring rates?

I'll have to look into that-- who sells plastic that isn't drilled? Maier? Acerbis? The front fender dilemma is a good part of the reason that I was trying to use the KX100 front end. As far as I know, the stock KLX front fender will mount up like it belongs on there- right?

I may try Minibike Springs and see if Rob can get a set of custom KX100 springs made for me. He's gonna need them anyway, as there are gonna be a ton of guys doing this exact conversion. I wanted to grab up a KX100 front end before they became too expensive on Ebay. Eventually they are going to be a coveted item. ---L*64
