KLX140 14/17 inch wheels with KX100 front- Finally some pics!

I got the KX100 front on finally. It just came yesterday. I'm planning on using Race Tech front springs-- they call for .35 for my weight, and they make some .33's. What I did was add 20 lbs to my weight to compensate for the extra 20 lbs. of heft that the 140 weighs over the KX100. I'll use a CRF150R rear spring rated at .54 or .56-- I haven't decided yet on the rear. Later on, I'll look into getting the 150R front on the bike. We'll see how it works with this front for now.

The issues were that the KX100 tree needs just a fraction more threads on it where the first spanner nut tightens on to the top bearing. I had to dremel out a washer to fit on it. The washer has to fit inside the rubber seal on the top bearing too. You'll have to hit a hardware store for that. You'll see what I mean when you get to it. I was thinking about taking it to a machine shop to have them thread it down a little more on the post. The top bridge bolts just barely clear the tank cover. I'll take care of that later on. I plan on having a welder go over this frame to beef up some welds, and to take some of the stock cheapness out of it. Like the ridiculous welded on steel tabs that hold wires and such, that will break right off when you flex them for the first time... stuff like that. I'll have him fab up a beefier steering stop and make it just slightly wider to add clearance for the top bridge bolts. I'm going to have the guy fab up the top tree to enable the choke/on-off switch to bolt up with no other modification.

Other than a pipe, a couple of carb jets, and possibly a 52 tooth rear sprocket, that's all that's out for the 140 for now. I was planning on grabbing up a slightly longer- 1/2 inch- 140L swinger when I find one. I was wondering about 428 sprockets-- I know there's an upgrade kit for the rear-- what about the front? Lemme know how y'all like it-- I got some side view pics posted so you can get a feel for the ride height. ---L*64

OOOOOOO *Jaw dropping* all ya gotta do now is get rid of that pipe and you got yourself an MX machine. Other than the engine... Looks sorta choppered. you might want to jack up that rear end if the rider is tall and or aggresive. All and all great bike.

"Looks sorta choppered"... Not too bad really-- look at the picture again, and cover up most of the front fender with your hand, and look at the bike then. I think it's the weird shaped front fender that makes it look like a chopper. Aside from hacking up a KX85 front fender, or a KLX125 fender-- there aren't alot of options at this point.

As for the rear-- aside from a CRF150R rear spring, there isn't anything available for the 140 yet. Somebody needs to make a linkage dog bone piece that will hike it up a bit. As soon as I find a slightly longer 140L swinger, I was planning on using that. I was almost thinking about seeing how long a KX100 swinger is-- if it's at least an inch or more longer than this one, then I was going to see about having it modded to work on this 140. A longer swinger would boost up the back a bit.

BBR has it's pipe finished now, so I was gonna grab one up when I save up the cash. I was going to just bump up on the jetting, and put on the pipe. Somebody needs to make a better shifter and rear brake pedal too.

.33 springs are not gonna work, i have .46 springs in mine and it is still soft. remember the bike is made for a 100lb kid + the kx100 weighs 75 lbs less than the 200lb 140. minimium your goona get away with is like .42 springs. cannonracecraft.com will make you any spring you want custom.

Hmmm.... Are you gonna be at TV Land Saturday? If you are, I wouldn't mind jumping on your bike to see how the suspension feels. What springs are you running in your KLX?

You could be right, because BBR uses .44 springs for a 170-180 lb rider on a CRF150R. I weigh around 145-150, then add 20 lbs. for the added weight of the 140 over the 150R, and there you go. BBR also has a .62 rear shock spring for a 150R. It also fits the 140. Maybe I'll go with that setup. --L*64

Oh... The 'Vette is a pristine '04 w/6400 miles. It's not stock either-- I'm a car freak too!

Dom-- I'm thinking the .62 rear from BBR, then having somebody-- MBS, or Cannon-- make a set of .44 springs for the front. You have to weigh 200 lbs. though-- right? (ha! ha!) How heavy is that KLX125? This 140 has got to be in the 190's. I may save a few pounds with a pipe, and taking off the kickstand, but probably gain them back with the KX100 forks. Who made the front springs that are in the YZ forks? Cannon? --- L*64

Looking good, as for the rear you can spend some money for a works shock, custom built to your specs, length etc....and get the spring, get it all done at once...proba 350 to 400...if you have the cash....

Re: KLX140 14/17 inch wheels with KX100 front- Finally some pics!

'69 Camaro is a cool ride. Isn't Chevy coming out with a new old looking Camaro in '09- '10? I saw it at the auto show-- looked awesome!

Well... A Works shock may be feasible, but the 140L shock isn't too bad. I don't think that the shock is the issue as much as the linkage is. I was thinking that somebody would come out with something-- shock or linkage pretty soon.

The problem with a Works shock, is that they haven't made anything for this bike yet. If I did anything, it would be to get a KX100 shock. That's out though because the res won't clear the frame. The 100 shock is actually about the same length as the 140L shock anyway. Somebody needs to fab up a linkage part-- like Kouba Link or whatever. The parts are steel, so it wouldn't be too hard to weld something up. Sick Tendencies Gary needs to take a look at this rear end, and go from there. ---L*64

your rear looks higher than mine. I wish some would come out with something or maybe I'll just try and shorten some stock ones.

Dude!!! That Vette is badass!! Too bad you live in LA. We'd get along great!

Yeah! I was thinking the exact same thing about the linkage. Another thing I was thinking, was to see if Lindemann Engineering could morph a KX100, and KLX140 rear shocks into one that's about 3/4 of an inch longer with the KX100 rod sliding into the KLX140 shock body. You could still preload the spring with the preload adjusters-- there's alot of threads at the top to thread the adjusters down, or Lindemann could have a longer spring custom made.

PM me with your EM, and I'll send you some Corvette pics. ---L*64
