TTR50 Pitbike Conversion My younger 6 year old son has outgrown the 50 and I was going to sell it, but my 11 year old wants to keep it and convert it to a pitbike to buzz around on. What's needed for the conversion; taller bars, taller seat, longer swingarm, etc?

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion The first question is how much do you want to spend? Bars and a seat are a good initial investment.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion I have no idea because I don't know what's available or what areas of the bike need to be changed. Basically, the bike just needs to become a bit taller so that the older one can hop on it.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion i am almost 6ft and about 250 pounds and I rode my 50 completely stock for the longest time with no problems at all, but bars are definatly helpful, and a pipe if you want to get some power and "be noticed". If you are going to Jump it and race it, some other mods would be helpful, I am sure some one else will chime in.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion Thanks for the responses so far. I'm definitely going to keep the engine stock. Maybe a pipe, but we live on a pretty quiet street. Where can I find bars, a taller seat and other goodies?

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion The biggest difference I noticed was from bar kit, tall seat and suspension.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion I have used my bike with stock engine for many times and always enjoid,i think if you change the bar kit,and suspension (also only springs) could be a good start........ Later step by step you can change the rest.......

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion I know everybody says get bigger bars. I personally like the feel of the stock bars, it is the right proportion to the bike. I think the most important thing would be a stiffer rear spring. The stock one will bottom out. If you have the money, then get the shocks. Then I would go with a pipe. Then take it from there. Some practical things would be heavy duty spokes, tire tubes, a chain guard, and such. As far as modding the engine goes, my opinion is that it is a 50, so I'm gonna keep it that way. It is tempting to go all out, but then I tell myself, I could have just bought a 110 if I wanted more. It will be a never ending cycle of wanting more from your bike. Plus. a 50 is quieter, lighter, and more compact, which is a good thing.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion Thanks. That was a great response. Practical is definitely what I'm after. Are you guys zipping around in dirt or asphalt?

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion We race, so the bike would only be used to zip around the pits and to buzz around in the neighborhood, so a quiet engine is important too. What would the exhaust tip be for?

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion Just for a little different sound but not as loud as a aftermarket exhaust. A stock pipe is the best pipe for a stock motor.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion You can run the crf50 heavy duty springs up front. I think pretty sure you can.

Re: TTR50 Pitbike Conversion Yes you can run XR/CRF 50 +1's and HD springs. Buying an exhaust would not be practical especially for what you're going after. It dosent make your stock motor and faster, just louder and less torque. Mine does seem do do slightly better in the higher RPM's, but nothing great. I only have a GYTR exhaust because I got it for only $100, but I will be going back to stock with a stinger soon. And bigger bars make a hell of a difference for me, but I am 6'3"...
