Throttle sticky

My son was riding the other day and all of a sudden, the throttle stuck and subsequently he fell (no injury). I noticed the throttle (hand-grip) wasn't springing back as usual so I took the 2 screws out and looked, nothing found, and screwed it back together. It seemed to be fine and would spring back as normal.......then later, it did it again!! Anybody have any ideas? Can you oil the cable somewhere or is there a spring I should check?

thanks.......

Re: Throttle sticky

Your cable probably has dirt in it. Do not add WD-40 or any type of oil though. It will make it better temporarily but then get much worse when dirt sticks to it. Graphite spray works the best to lube up the cable. You can get it from hardware stores in the aisle with the locks. It is the same lube they use for padlocks and such. And dirt won't be attracted to it

Re: Throttle sticky

Maybe check the other end too, where the throttle cable connects to the carb, to make sure it's not on that end.

Re: Throttle sticky

Check your air filter.

I have had my throttle get stuck by grit getting past the airfilter and hanging my slide in the carb.

Re: Throttle sticky

He probably just landed on the right side. I did that before and jammed the throttle. just loosen it and tighten it back up. And dont push the throttle in too hard.

Re: Throttle sticky

very well could be that. I forgot about my days of scraped knuckles and bruised arms... I have been on the street where its all or nothing.

Re: Throttle sticky

My son crashed the same way. I took the throttle apart, and put it back. It seems ok, but we haven't done much riding since.
