Re: vm26 jetting

People keep giving jetting advice but tend to confuse which exact carb the user has. A real mikuni vm26-606 looks like this.

if this is th ecarb you have then start with a 180/needle in middle/screw 1.5 out. start it up and adjust your air screw like i posted earlier. this should clear up your bottom end throttle response. for top-end, you gotta run it at least in 3rd gear wot and notice how the rpms build or if it bogs or spits.
you also have to adjust your float height to keep your carb from overflowing like that.

Re: vm26 jetting

yep, thats my carb. Which way is which for the air screw, In=leaner or out=leaner? what pilot you runnin? I got a 22.5 and a 25. in the last couple posts I was told to run my 22.5, but the 25 ran way better before. right now I got the 190 with the 22.5 pilot, air screw 2 turns out, and needle 2nd from all the way up. and the throttle is still crapy. I will try a 170, and 190 with the 25 pilot and see if there is a difference. the only jet I do not have is a 180, but I can get one if need be. Ill update later

Re: vm26 jetting

Mikuni VM26-606 and VM26-665 are very different in setup.

I am running #150 in a VM26-665 with K&N filter at sea level on a YX140.
Do not know which pilot jet is in, have not had the need to open the float bowl yet.

Re: vm26 jetting

Think I found the best im gonna get. 170 main, 25 pilot, air screw 2 turns out, needle right in the middle. tried it with the 22.5 pilot, just bogs alot when I give it alot of throttle. choke still kills it when its on, i guess I will just not use it. Still some bog from idle, but only when I give it more than 1/2 throttle. thanks for the help along the way.

1/2 throttle would be your needle. move the clip one up or one down and test the difference. sounds like your almost there.

Re: vm26 jetting

since were on the topic my gpx 160 leaks a little fuel out the air filter after i take it for a spin, it also bogs a lil when i flour it in 3rd then it takes right off, also smells like its running rich, but other than than it seems to run/ idle fine. do i need to adjust my needle?

Re: vm26 jetting

I just put a BBR 106 kit in my sons CRF 50. After jetting for 3 days, I have come to the conclusion that the bike WILL bog right off the throttle no matter what we try. Pilots: 20. 22.5, 25, 27.5 with various combinations of mains:140-190; and the clip on every notch on the neddle. Always bogged when we really crack the throttle. If the revs are up a little, like were the bike wants to leave, it is real hard to bog then. BUT ON A fast twist from idle, it dies. BTW i tried different air screw settings.

what works best here is 22.5, 160 main, clip in the 4th from the bottom.

This is on a BBR 106 kit

yeah thats what I figured, my 450 does it, and its not that big of a deal anyway, its not too bad. I had to move the needle up one notch from middle because it was running a little lean on top.

Re: vm26 jetting

Your only hope to eliminate 100% of bog like that is invest in a pumper carb.

Re: vm26 jetting

Alright, got mine really close, all I have now is a little studder coming off the turn, about midway through the rev range, needle clip in middle, 17.5, 115, any suggestions. With a 125 I didnt have the studder but it wouldnt rev out WOT like the 115 does
