160 YX Vs. 150 YX Which to buy?

Is a 160 motor much more powerful than a 150? I can get a killer deal on a 150 right now but I ride with a guy that has a 160. I know a lot of its the rider but I dont want to be way down on power right out of the gate. 150 does have a 28mm carb and IRK. Your thoughts??

Well do you plan on putting a scut on. Get the 160. IMO Unless you have a really sweet deal. What make 28mm carb?

Not sure what make a carb, what is a scut? The 150 is about $100-$150 depending on where I could get the 160

um. i hurd that the 150 has more power and you can bore them out easier???? that is wat i have hurd. i dont have one though.
my friend kevin, on here he is none as flyn62, he has a 160 and said he should have got the 150 because it has a shorter crank. ask him. he just got a ride with pitster. he will no.

yes, i have a 160 v2 right now. all stock other than the head. only thing about the 160 is you cant put a scut in without case bore but i wouldnt run the scut anyway due to reliability. but as far as power, 160 wont be a huge difference, but a v2 160 will blow it out of the water

Re: 160 YX Vs. 150 YX Which to buy?

you cant bolt on a Scut on a 160 the stroke is to long, a scut can be reliable you just have to change the piston and rings every 10hrs

get a 160 and dropp a V2 head on it and you will have very few that can hang with you

o and Peak HP of the 2 is aboput the same just the 160 makes tonz more tq then the 150

that would be interesting if there is truth to the statement that the 150 will rev up quicker because of the shorter stroke. the 150s rock I'm sure with a v2 head and a 165 pistonkit it would make more power then you can handle.

the 150 has more topend with the shorter stroke but not even close to the tq of what the 160 makes, i have built and raced every combo you can think of with these motors and the 160 is the best way to go for motocross, the 150 with a 165 kit + a V2 head is a good motor but a 160 with a v2 head on it is still a better motor for motocross,

i am running a GPX160 with a NCC bigbore on it and a V2 head making it a 177cc

now my GPX200 is going to be a crazy mofo to ride, i hope to have it done by Texas

Flyn64, How much you think your making with the hi-comp V2 head setup? What need to be done to have stronger setup? Also what carb and cam are you using?

Re: 160 YX Vs. 150 YX Which to buy?

i asked NCC and they said around 16-17 hp. You dont need much more power than this. I have the stock 26mm carb and stock v2 cam. To get more i think a 28mm carb would be the best thing right now. maybe a bore kit in the future but right now the bike RIPS. Also NCC also told me the stock 160 piston would be more compression so there is a little more and i was thinking port and polish would help but i dont want to get into the head to much but dood also told me thats 1-2 hp right there

Re: 160 YX Vs. 150 YX Which to buy?

The stock yx160 has more compression then the race head piston?

You think a 30mm would run better then a 28mm?

Are you running a flywheel, lightned flywheel, outer rotor, or a inner rotor?

Your not having kickstart, basket, or clutch problems?

yes it has more compression

no none of those mods. just stock with v2

28mm should be plenty.

i have a decomp cam but before no, no motor issues. i did have one right off the bat but it was an assembly failure so they warranted it

Re: 160 YX Vs. 150 YX Which to buy?

you can do a big bore on both as it currently stands
63mm -177cc on the 160 and
64mm -170cc on the 150
both accept the tb v2 heads

with that bike having a 10in wheel it would feel more powerfull and it also has a S20 cam in it for more bottom end over the TB cam,

and with the stock piston having more comp is b/c the valve releafs on the TB piston are SOOO overly big you lose compression and the stock piston has really small ones so the overall compression is a lttle higher on the stocker then the TB
