This was a very last minute and late night decision to go riding Saturday. My plans for the day changed, took the baby to mom's and I was able to go for a quick ride Saturday. IM'd EddieNewYork and he was up for the last minute ride. As I was driving to Griffith Park (where we started last time) Eddie called me and said the entrance to Griffith Park was closed for some event. I was able to meet Eddie and start the ride in an auxiliary parking lot near the entrance. So since the Griffith Park was semi closed, we decided to take a quick trip to Elysian Park (near Dodger Stadium). On the way there I remembered some hills in Echo Park most notably Fargo Street. 33% grade. 0.11 miles One of the steepest streets in California. I've ridden up this hill during one of the yearly bicycle events. This year someone climbed it 101 times! some pics: >>>Linky photography by josh harris : Fargo Street hill climb, Silver Lake, March 2008.- powered by SmugMug The bikes surprisingly tackled the hill with ease. Going down seemed harder and scarier. Here's a picture in Echo Park. We stopped by Angels Point in Elysian Park and took some pictures. Rode through and around Elysian Park. Monkeying around and stunting. Actually, I was trying not to step on that crack or I'd break my mother's back. We went back to Griffith Park and rode around out usual route and then some others we didn't ride last time. Pic of the Observatory and downtown LA in the background. As you can see, I was dressed for a cool day which it was not. It hit 95 in LA today, but luckily we started in the morning. We did end the ride around 1pm and by then I was exhausted and dehydrated from sweating so much. We found out that Eddie's CRF50 with a Takagawa 88 S-Stage kit with Yosh exhaust was faster than my Zongshen 125 with stock exhaust. Unfairly, I had a 4th gear and as soon as I hit 4th gear, i pulled away from Eddie. I think Eddie is thinking about getting the head ported now. I'll definitely get a freer flowing exhaust (can't be the stealthiness of it though) and maybe a better 125 engine. Last edited by shw911; 04-27-2008 at 02:30 AM.

Re: Griffith Park/Echo Park/ Elysian Park ride Yesterday was fun!! We need to try and go like 7am next time. I can't take wearing all this armor in the hot LA weather. I don't know how we survived, lol. I went to Cycle Gear this morning and picked up my Alpinestars Bionic 2 jacket. Wore it for a quick run a little while ago and I was still hot! Here's some more pics to add and 2 little vids of me riding. Right click and save as - video 1 - 19 megs Right click and save as - video 2 - 10 megs

Re: Griffith Park/Echo Park/ Elysian Park ride Luckily we went yesterday. The Dodgers had a game today and it was packed. My mom even got stuck in traffic for a while (grid locked) on the way back from the market. Yes, an earlier ride would be much better. I have a better idea of where to take the others in the LA area. We rode at least 10-15 miles yesterday and there was a bit of exploring on my part. Griffith Park is huge, Echo Park has a lot of steep streets, Elysian Park had a lot of twisties also so spending a few hours between the three (and then some) would be possible. If not for the minor time constraint we would be able to ride another hour. I think I found a better coffee place that's more bike friendly. Last edited by shw911; 04-27-2008 at 07:20 PM.
