Street legal crf450?

Has anyone done this? My dad has one and i was gonan buy it to make it street legal but i dont really know if it will hold up or anything. It already has a steering dampener, electric start, and lights.

I know its not a "mini" motard but i think it would be a pretty cool thing to have

Service Honda is selling new ones. Service Honda - Honda Motorcycles
You may want to call them and ask what they do.

or go on Thumpertalk.com or supermotojunky.com and read about it there. Both have threads about converting to street-tards.

The service honda one looks badass except for the little front tire.

Get info from someone that has converted an mx bike to street legal in your state. Also want to get info from your dmv. The process and regulation varies from state to state. I know that Pennsylvania is big balls about the whole "competition only" classification with the mx bikes.

Re: Street legal crf450?

The CRF450X is even easier to convert over to street legal and it sounds like thats what you have. I am going to pick one up in the next few months as a streetard. Just pickup 17s, 320mm rotor, taillight, brake light switch, signals, & horn.

Re: Street legal crf450?

Baja designs makes street legal kits for dirt bikes. I did my 04 KTM 450 exc in 2004. My dealer got the plates for me when I bought it. Definitly check with your state regs first. Illinois says you need to have a metal tank as part of their requirements, but there is no bike check before you get your plates. I even had an officer stop me to talk about it and he actuall asked me to ride it and I let him. No b.s. I did not want to piss him off, and look to find my non dot tires or tank. Your local dealer may help you the most, as they probably have done this a time or two before.

Re: Street legal crf450?

i was really just wondering if it would hold up to street abuse, like 80+mph constantly.

mine is geared way tall imo, 15/45. it will do 80+ easy but i will not hold it like that for long. i can cruise at 60-70 no probs.

Ok thats good. With that gearing does it still have pretty good bottom? Is it the X model or the R?

Re: Street legal crf450?

Extra oil capacity is important, as a street bike/enduro holds about 4 times the amount of oil. Also a cushdrive hub will help reduce drive train wear.

Re: Street legal crf450?

honestly im not big on cush drives. i don't plan on keeping my bike for years. extra oil never hurts but it is hard to make it work without having it where it could be damaged during a crash.

Tedog, what dealer did you go through with yours? Elgins not too far from me, and I'm thinking a converted sm 450 would be a lot of fun.
