Pitster XJR 90 review

I've had the bike for a month now so I thought I would give a review.
A couple of friends and I bought 3 at the same time. It came shipped in a metal frame in just over a week. The crate took a beating from Fedex but after pulling everything apart there was no damage.

The bike came in more peices than expected and with out assembly instructions. It took about an hour on the first bike to figure out were eveything went. The other two went together easier from experience. However on one of the bikes the top triple clamp was stipped, and on another bike tightening the the tripple clamp down on the fork caused the clamp to break (note it was not over tightened). Upon inspection the clamp is a cheap cast aluminum. My brother luckily is a machinest and was able to weld it. He also took measurments and has made his own tripple clamp with stronger forged aluminum.

After assembly we went through checkening each bolt, there were a couple loose bolts that needed tightened. Each bike started in just a few kicks but ran rough. Some of the problem was due to not putting oil on the filter that came with the bike. The rest of the problem was fixed with adjusting the air fuel mixture screw in the front of the carb. Its a p.i.a due to its location and we made our own tool to reach it.

The only other problem we had was the bikes would die after riding a few minutes, this was due to the gas cap not venting properly. After the caps were fixed they have been running really well. We have done a lot of mixed riding, from rocky terain, to dirt, and even on a paved kart track.

Breaking it down on a 10 point scale

Engine: 8pts
88cc GPX is Smooth, it pulls nicely and the semi manual shifts clean and easily. Its not a race engine but has no problem pulling through the gears with a 200lb adult. However the gearing is way to short.

Suspension & Chasis: 5pts
The rear is a bit stiff, and the front forks arn't very smoothe probally the biggest fault of the bike. It does well on the street and track but I wouldn't want to get to much air with this bike. As stated above the front end is a bit cheap.

Over all build: 7pts
Its a good looking bike and for the money ($850 through pitsterpro) I don't think it can be beat. There are some cheap parts on it that should be upgraded, such as the suspension. I've been hard on the bike, laying down on the track a few times, I just pick it up and start riding agian.

Would I buy this bike again? Absolutely.
What are my first upgrades going to be? Smaller rear sprocket, and better tires, (comes with Kenda wich are ok for all around, but not very good on the track).
You can check it out at pitster pro, where I bought my bike the website has some nice picks but little on specs.
I'm not sure about their customer service I havn't called them for anything.

I got it because the price is right. The suspension is suitable for adults, but like I've stated I don't plan on jumping it.

Yes they are! Its amazing how some adults can even ride them. I am not one of them, I need actual suspension to save my arse.

Oh and thanks for the review!

A taller rear sprocket??? if the gearing is too short then your going in the wrong direction? and its cheaper to change the front.

Whoops, I fixed it.

Actually I recently went up two teeth on the front. It seems to work pretty good so far.
