| FAQ's about Mini SuperMoto Hey Moderators, can you make this a sticky. Then maybe allow a few additions to my posts. Then lock it. This is an information post. Not a place to ask questions. Thanks, Cam FAQ’s about Mini Super Moto; 1. Do I need 12” rims front and rear? A: Not required but 14” tires are very hard to find. 2. Do I have to change my 10” rims on my 50? A: No, use an 80/90-10” or a 90/90-10” tire. 3. If I have a 12” front and 10” rear, do I have to build 2 matching rims? A: Not required but not the ideal set up. It would benefit you to have matching rims. 4. Can I mount a 120/80-12” tire on a 1.60” x 12” rim? A: Yes but it is not a good selection. Use a 90/90-12” or a 100/90-12” tire. 5. Will a 3.50” x 10” tire fit between the stock forks on a CRF/XR 50? A: No. 6. Will a 120/80-12” tire fit in the swing arm of my KLX110? A: Yes. Unless you have a 15hp engine or more, you do not need a 120/80-12” rear. Use a 100/90-12” front and rear. 7. Can I use a 2.50” x 12” rim on the rear of my Mini? A: Most mini’s will accept a rear 2.50” but it is personal preference. 8. What is a slick versus a DOT? A: A slick is not legal for the street. A DOT has small grooves and are street legal. 9. Are heavy duty spokes and nipples required? A: No, but the stainless steel nipples and spokes are much stronger. 10. Where do I get Mini Super Moto parts? A: Do a “Google” search. Type in “mini road racing”. 11. Why won’t my tire seat? A: You need a heavy duty tube. You need a small amount of soap. Surgical soap seems to work best. You may need up to 100 psi. Be careful!!!!! 12. |

| Re: FAQ's about Mini SuperMoto I'd agree on most of this. Plus 2 cents A 3.50" X 10" BT39 fits on my 2005 CRF50 stock rim/fork, I did have to trim the rubber dust seals for this to work..... The HD forks springs with +1" fork legs are a bonus on the CRF50, and a high rise bar set-up. Other lubricant alternatives to seating the rim are spray vegetable oils (canola, corn, sunflower etc..) these work really well and are not going to degrade the natural rubber oils from the tire. Rims seem to play a part in the seating of the bead....... a proper width rim will help you out (wider vs narrower rim). A quality rim helps too. The Fox air shox has been the best unit for the older A style swingarms for the CRF50 clone bikes for Road racing and "motarding" on pavement/dirt tracks. Quality oil with frequent changes have proven to make motors/gear boxes last and perform at peak HP. The fastest tires most racers have used in 10" and 12" for road racing are: 12"; TT91 now TT92. BT601, currently unavailable in the US. Sava MC31 Some like the Michilin Pilot sport. 10"; TT91/92 Dunlop BT39 Bridgestone MC0 Sava For pavement/dirt any of these with extra grooves cut into them hook up decent in the dirt sections. The SAVA 10" rains work great in this application. 16" tires and 17" tires anyone? There are people using various 17" slicks on some of the bigger sized bikes, I believe most are running the Dunlop or Bridgestone soft slicks. I'm unsure of the sizes commonly used......... Bar end sliders vs 'Bark Busters' = personal choice. Pros and cons to both styles of protection. Bar height = personal prefference. Some people like lower bars vs higher bars. Motard vs Road racing is part of the equation. The size of the bike falls into this equation as well. The riders physical size as well. If you like a fully crouched GP125 position you might like clip-ons or flat bars, even clubman bars. If your a flat tracker you might like wider flatter styled bars. If your into the upright position on a "pitbike" you might like the taller "pitbike" bars. Last edited by teddy; 06-10-2008 at 12:09 PM. |
