r6 or r1?

Thinking of getting 1 of the 2 in a couple months, I'm in love with both. I can't decide. I was leaning towards the r6 until today when I rode an r1. I've rode bikes my entire life so I'm not new to it by any means, it would be the first street bike I've ever owned tho. I've rode a bunch of 600s today was my first time on a 1000 tho. I have time to figure it out still, but I'd like some opinions.

what do you guys think? what would you get?

Re: r6 or r1?

If it's your first streetbike you don't need the R1. Don't take it the wrong way, I don't doubt your abilities at all. I actually wouldn't reccomend an R6 to start on, but I know you prolly don't want to be stuck with a learner bike down the road. The R1 will bite you quicker if make a small mistake, turning it into a very big mistake. Hell, the R6 is what....130 hp now? Buy the R6, spend some time on it developing those skills. Down the road if you decide you need the liter bike ,you can always sell the R6. Good luck either way, and be safe man.

yea i understand what your saying, but I've rode tons of bikes just haven't personally owned them. The r6 is plenty fast enough for me but it sits a little higher and I just like the way the r1 feels a little better. Not really worried about which is faster...the new r6 will do 170 before hitting rev limiter...I don't really NEED anything faster than that.

I may just get an r6 and lower it a little bit.

Re: r6 or r1?

liters are not good first bikes period....80-90 percent of people cant ride a 600 to potential...I'd stick with a newer 600 or 750 and step up when you ready

R1......reason: there is no replacement for displacement...... Get the R1 ride it with respect and in a year you'll be the king of the road....

Re: r6 or r1?

from a person who has ridden both. I found myself in alot more trouble on the R1. I'm not a veteran rider by any means, but the r6 just seems easier to handle and less likely to get away from me.

Who needs to do 90 something in 1st gear anyways.

Sure there is it's called boost...haha anyhow a liter in the hands of a rookie rider in terms of familarity with a street bike is asking for trouble..The whole idea of having the extra power to help get you out of a bad spot is retarded as the bike when ridden hard or squirely by someone who is not used to the powerband is askin for a issue...I have owned 750 and ridden tons of 600 and when i get on my buddies liter bikes they are a handful by comparison...IMHO a 750 is ideal and the new ones flat out rip.. I had zero problems gettin mine to power up in 2nd and slight clutch bump in 3rd..

Re: r6 or r1?

Get the 1000, just don't be stupid on the bike. I have had plenty of sportbikes and I couldn't go back to anything but another 1000. The only thing better with the smaller displacement bikes are they are easier to ride long wheelies. Besides if you are planning on doin stupid things on the street you will want the extra cc's when running from the cops. HAHA I know I liked being able to get away faster then my buddies.

For the love of God, buy a GSXR1000

Re: r6 or r1?

start on a smaller bike a r1 will actually inhibit you ability to learn. ive gone from r1 to busas and still love the 600 more. 600 is more agile its forgiving and will do anything you need it to. no reason for a big bike to learn on.

lol no gsxr for me, unless it was used at a good deal...i work for a yamaha dealer...i will be getting some knocked off more than likely...and ive never ridden a suzuki that i like...something always feels bad about them to me...although ive not ridden a gsxr. im still not sure what im gonna end up with i like them both and dont plan on acting like a retard on either one, ive rode both and liked both so i guess i will figure it out when the day comes to sign papers...thanks for the input guys

Re: r6 or r1?

this thread makes me miss my 04 gsxr...... asking a first time sport bike rider not to act stupid on a liter is a bit of an oxymoron in my opinion

Re: r6 or r1?

and my point was in regard to you stating that you only rode a 1000cc once..correct? this would classify as a rookie to 1000cc sport bikes..not trying to bag on you bro but all these kids around here get the biggest and baddest and have zero ability. I'm sure you can ride just providing my 2 cents that ,that is too much bike to start on
