| Re: Photography-RAW Software Explain a little more about what you're asking. Does your camera shoot in RAW? I'm not understanding what you mean, are you needing a program to help convert a RAW image into a JPEG onto your computer? If so, Photoshop can do this. The main use for RAW would be to have more control over your colors in PP (post-processing) If you're not sure what RAW is, just shoot in JPEG. |

| Re: Photography-RAW Software I shoot just about everything in RAW... Use photoshop cs3 if you have that... I use adobe lightroom but it's basically the same processing engine as cs3... I hear good things about apple aperture also... Capture one is another option... |

Honestly, if you're not sure what RAW is or how it works, don't even bother messing with it. Its too hard to explain. Just shoot in JPEG. | |

| Re: Photography-RAW Software it's not that hard. If you don't try you'll never learn. Cs3 has a raw processor built into it. Adjusting brightness, color, contrast, etc is way easier and better with a raw image than a JPEG IMO. The advantages of raw are too numerous to list. If you're taking a lot of photos and you don't make many adjustments just shoot JPEG. |

| Re: Photography-RAW Software Here is a basic explanation from what I have read. Raw images are larger and higher quality pictures. Because they are raw and not converted into a JPEG they don't lose any clarity. Everytime you edit or save a picture in a different format the picture looses about 10% (percentage for explanation sake, not an exact percentage) of its clarity. Shooting in raw allows for a picture to be edited and still come out at 90%, whereas if you shot in JPEG you would loose the 10% by shooting in JPEG then another 10% during editing. Unless you are printing your pictures or using them for other advertisements where quality must be the absolute best you really don't need to be worried about it, JPEG will work fine for what you are doing and the pictures take up less space on your memory card. |

| Re: Photography-RAW Software Raw image format - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia See this description of raw... there is a lot more to it than losing quality on saves... ie. More dynamic range, more room for adjustment, more precise adjustment, etc... Here is another interesting article about raw software...
