Engagement Ring

I'm 27, been with my girl for 2 years now. There isn't a doubt in my mind that she is the one. So am coming to realize i am going to have to buy her a rock in the somewhat near future.

Why do men have to buy their girl a rock? Because that is what the girl wants, and society teaches the girl to except nothing less? But why? Not to sound cheap, but they are so freaking expensive, yet they don't do anything but sit there on her finger, and get drooled over by her friends. It's like a status symbol. WTF!! I don't get it man. there are way more important things a couple should be worrying about. like buying a house maybe??? you can't live in a ring! Same with a wedding dress, why would anyone buy a really expensive dress that they will never wear again? Seems like a big waste of money to me. thats like buying a new dirtbike helmet but only wearing it ridding once. Can someone please explain women to me!?

Re: Engagement Ring

I know what you're saying man. My chick basically has my 2008 YZ450f sitting on her finger right now as we just got engaged a couple months ago.

At the same time though we have already bought a house together and knocked out a lot of the big things prior.

It's life man. Not every couple though goes that route, if she wont marry you without the big rock maybe you might want to re-think it all.

Re: Engagement Ring

its tradition, and people dont like to stray away from tradition. and i am a strong believer in the wedding is not about what you want. its her day, your along for the ride. and if you do what she wants every now and then(nice ring) then she will appriciate what you have done for her

Quarter machine at Tom Thumb Grocery. Sweet looking rocks...cheap!! Just explain to her that you have really important kids motorcycle parts to purchase for yourself to enjoy, and life doesn't revolve around her and her ridiculous needs. Then push her down the stairs(if you have a 2-story, if not find one for future reference).

Re: Engagement Ring

Re: Engagement Ring

Make a deal with your lady! The one I have going with mine is this.

I get a gift as well, I get something that is worth half of the ring... We spent a night argueing about it and thats what came out of it. lmao!

Personally I think rings are stupid. But guys have no choice in the matter.. Thankfully my girl doesnt want a big ring.

Re: Engagement Ring

Dude I bought my wife a $100.00 ring for our wedding and every year I add on a $200.00 chip now it is worth 8500.00 and I just had it insured ,we have been together for 14 yrs ...I did that because it seems that $200.00 a year wont break you!

Re: Engagement Ring

some good coments in here. As for my girl, i don't think she would say i-don't without a ring. But at the same time i know she wants a rock, as all girls do, and i wouldn't deprive her of that. I just don't really agree with the concept. as for the wedding, i agree, thats her day and i am ok with that (within reason)

that idea bout buying her a ring for $100 bones and dropping $200 on it every year is a cool idea. but i doubt she would like it

I told the salesperson at the jewelry store ,when I bought the ring for my wife ,that I was not use to spending this much money for something I could not haul in back of my truck!
