Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes Im trying to figure out the best scope to put on my Savage 10FP rifle shooting .308. I'm looking to shoot in the 800 yard range. Anyone have any knowledge in scopes. Im very knowledgeable in firearms, just not scopes.

Re: Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes For the money you can't beat the Super Sniper scope. They are the US navy current contract holder. I have a Leupold VXII 6-18x w/ target knods and fine duplex on my Remington LTR 308 and love it. The Price isn't to bad either. But if money is not an option go Leupold MK4... Hope that helps SWFA 20x42 Super Sniper Tactical Rifle Scope SS20x42 - eBay (item 140257308047 end time Aug-21-08 06 57 PDT)

Re: Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes Well I have been looking at the Leupold Mk-2 3x9x40. But on the searches i have done nobody seems to be using it. Burris makes the super sniper correct?

Re: Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes SWFA is the current manufacturer for the SS... 3-9 is no where near enough magnification for accurate repeatable 800 yd shooting

Re: Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes The SS is a fixed 20x but you can get them in different magnifications. For that distance anything with a maximum magnification under 12 is pointless in my opinion for long range shooting... I love my VXII Would you like to see a pic with it on my gun to get a better perspective?

Re: Any gun people who know a thing or two about scopes Good Choice but with the 10x you really need to practice for that kind of accuracy at 600+ yards. But alot of marines use a fixed 10x and swear by it. I guess it's just preference that's all
