A cooler plug makes for less of a chance for pre-ignition (yes, not detonation)! actually, just found a great write up on NGK's site... Tech Info - Spark Plugs Overview For the people who think cooler is better... go get you a surface gap plug! | |

| Re: spark plug for R head [quote=xr1million;989072]most people dont know why, they think it makes the motor run cooler! But it doesnt!!!!! It all has to do with heat dissipation from the core (the white ceramic part around the electrode) to the plug case (the metal threads). The lower the number, the deeper the core goes into the casing before connecting with it (hints less heat dissipation). the higher the number the more the core is in contact. The difference between a 6 a 7 and an 8 isnt (usually) noticeable by eye. A cooler plug makes for less of a chance for pre-ignition (yes, not detonation)! actually, just found a great write up on NGK's site... Tech Info - Spark Plugs Overview 100% TRUE. IVE ALWAYS RAN A 8 WITH A BBK ON MY 50 & 110 |
