Klx / Drz Faq

how does this sound guys? having the following items in one post/thread. I have seen a lot of the same questions come up over and over again and again. I am hoping the admin will allow us to have a sticky.

Change log:
8/6/06 - Applied Mad110's suggested changes.
8/6/06 - Added content

Proposed FAQ Sticky:
-KLX history and model variances
2002: Was the first year for the klx110 to come out. It has a few parts that are not interchangable with the various years. It is speculated that the 2002 klx had a few issues relating to its transmission and crank. Frame color is green or black.

2003:Kawasaki revamped the bike relating the issues found in the 2002 model. The transmission is suppose to be differnt, as well as the crank and engine case when compared to the 2002 model. Suzuki begins to offer the DRZ110. It is the exact same bike as the Kawisaki but has yellow plastic and a yellow gas tank. Kawisaki frames were black or green while the Suzuki was ???.

2004: No changes. Both Suzuki and Kawisaki frame color was gray/silver. This was the last year for the DRZ110 as the Kawasaki and Suzuki partnership ended.

2005: Pretty much the same as the 2004 model, but Kawasaki changed the shift shaft. 2005 and up klx utilizes a differnt shifter due to the amount of splines on the shaft. The frame was still silver/gray.

2006: Stock carb was changed which made the carb harder to mod when running engine mods. Frame still silver/gray.

2007: BNG Bold New Graphics

2008: Stronger Output Shaft then previous years

anyone please feel free to add content and I will edit the first post to reflect your content.

Please use this format below (for example):

Topic: Content content content content content content content etc...

That way I can just paste your content in. Also do not quote the first post as it will be diificult to note where the changes are. Please just provide the changes nothing else.

I think we are on our way. Thanks in advance to anyone who supplies content.

FYI: My 2003 Suzuki has a gray frame and a black gas tank. Perhaps based on the time of year the production bits changed a little. Like a XXXX.5 model year car?

I'd include a list of "free mods":

Drill out the restrictor donut/washer in the intake of the exhasut pipe

DO NOT drill the airbox!, but DO remove the snorkel in the frame.

Shim the needle with a 1mm washer.

___

Low rent mods: KX60 forks, KX65 forks require special triple clamp.

Ok all updates applied. Thank you everyone. Seems like there is no consistent frame color in one model year and it can change mid-year.

For the mods and budget section please feel free to offer your suggested set-ups for the respective budgets. But please price the items at retail not at what you can get it for. As not everyone has the same hook ups as you.

thanks

<$100:

In addition to boring the header pipe, also cut off the spark arrestor in the exhaust can, and then replace the cap. Makes it louder and faster, however I suggest doing this combined w/ a filter kit thats ~30, + a new main jet.

IT will require some tuning...but DEFINATLY worth the time and effort it takes to aquire the extra ~25%hp it gives.
