What's new about this picture

I want people to look at the attached picture and tell me from your experience, what's different about this engine from what you've seen in the past... Hint - Focus on the head...

Re: What's new about this picture

It's twice as expensive as any other engine they've made?

Have you seen a Takegawa DOHC head look like that? Look at the cam and head covers, and the script on the front of the head.

Desmo Heads

Look at the pics in this post. Now if they ever release the Desmo it will be a small miracle.

Re: What's new about this picture

I saw it today when I visited the takegawa site.
And thought wow this head is much different form the original 4 valve head.
It would be sick if it is a desmo head.

Re: What's new about this picture

Desmo mechanically opens AND closes the valves with rockers instead of using valve springs.

Dan, it's good to see you took a closer look after our meet and greet.

Re: What's new about this picture

i was gonna say the covers on the right side if say the motor was sitting in a bike, look way different including the cap thats between those. Plus the top of the head seems to be shorter in height, and the most obvious is it comes off as a complete head. Doesnt have that like cap that splits the top into two pieces. Hopefully this makes sence.

wow, after what tmas posted what i wrote down seems like a 5 year old. but on the outside as you asked thats what i made of it

Yes sir. I didn't pay attention until you pointed it out.

And for the record, the current Takegawa DOHC is discontinued. They will sell replacement parts for a year or two, but no new DOHC's as we know it.

Re: What's new about this picture

Ok, all I have to do is sell off two mini's and MAYBE I can afford it... better sell the road race bike as well just to be certain...

I wonder if they'll be doing a wide stud spacing version for their 138cc crate motors?

Re: What's new about this picture

Dan ,whats the chance of getting one of those heads and how much?
I got a new build coming up thid winter with a freind, and were looking to do a ducati look-a-like, nsr50. Nothing would be better than having a desmo head, and dry clutch!

They haven't been released and may never be. If they are released, figure the cost of a DOHC setup and add more...

Re: What's new about this picture

Is it safe to assume the engine you listed dan is running a desmo head? from the previous thread it looks that the head on there new catalog resembles identical to the prototype desmo version

Re: What's new about this picture

The Desmo head was on older catalogues (is this correct?) too.. Ik thought vol. 15..
They then said it was a unique piece, and it would never be produced..
