Re: What do you guys think?

If you want to bolt on tuning parts from Overseas, go with a 1979-1987. The frames are different from the 1972-1978's and more parts will be available.

Also, get the cheapest one you can find, as if you truly want to build a high-end bike, you'll only be using the frame and little else.

yes but i don't think the cheaper on is street legal. I asked already if they have the registration papers or the bill of sale for the dealer, i think i can make it street legal

and the mod it after.

what do I need to start something like this pic? a Z50? CT50?

If you want to build a high-end Japanese restomod, get the 1979-1987 frame.

The problem with the 1972-1978 frames is the way the shocks mount in the rear, the rear fender, different shaped tank, limited number of aftermarket seats that fit (2), etc.

I have a restomodded 1976 and it's a cool bike, but you are severely limited on some of the aftermarket parts that fit as compared to the 1979 and newer frames that were the same as the Monkey.

The only frame differences from a true Monkey and a post 1979 Z50R is the Monkey has a battery box and side cover provision. This can easily be remedied with a good welder.

Here's my 1976, but it was a pretty mild project and is my beater I give the kids rides on.

Completed 1976 Z50A Restomod

Re: What do you guys think?

If you want to build that G-Craft bike, you are better off buying a bare frame.

My build is similar to that G-Craft bike and I made the mistake of buying a complete bike. The only parts im still using from the original bike is the wiring loom, tank, headlight and crank cases. So, save yourself some money, buy a bare frame and treat it as a bare canvas.

The G-craft bike is built off of a Honda Monkey. If you want to build a bike like that with a frame easily available to you, you'll need to purchase a 1979-1987 Z50 frame or roller.

You will then have to weld on a battery box and brackets for a left-side cover.

All parts to duplicate that bike are easy to source, but will be far from cheap.

Re: What do you guys think?

In Japan, the 1972-1978 US Spec Z50 is known as a 4L Monkey. The 4L parts are sparce in Japan and globally.

The 1979-1987 US Z50's share the same frame as the 1978-2007 Honda Monkey (without the side cover and battery box) and there are so many parts worldwide it will make your head spin. 500+ different exhaust configurations from close to stock to fullon custom, hand-bent titanium made to order based on measurements.

You are only limited by your imagination and pocketbook.

Drop me a note if you need anything.

great info! I'll look for a 79- or newer for sure! all bets are off untill i actually find a frame to work on. I was days too late for a street legal plated z50 that was an hours drive from me......

oh well my time will come. I like the wheels and breaks on the g-craft bike, I wonder how much those are going to run me
