Torque wrench a neccesity?

I have been working on my bike myself for several months now and aqquired a jincheng manual for it they recommend a torque wrench in many situations. I plan on building it up over the winter (Front end,Swingarm etc) Do i need one for my build?

Re: Torque wrench a neccesity?

I never use one and RARELY strip anything. It's pretty easy to tell if something is tight/to tight.

Re: Torque wrench a neccesity?

I figured it would be a good idea, i just got the valve adjusting tool from dratv and a feeler gauge and some other widgets. This all came about when i couldnt find anybody who would work on my "Chinese piece of junk" so i decided to turn my own wrenches. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: Torque wrench a neccesity?

I like to use a torque wrench. It's easy to get carried away with the 6mm bolts which only require/hold 9 ft/lbs if I don't have a torque wrench..

Wrench enough and you'll never need one. You will know by feel if its right. Never owned one and probably never will. Just like the man said, you'll know when its tight. JMOP.

I also like using a torque wrench. Puts my mind at ease when it comes to axle bolts.

Re: Torque wrench a neccesity?

A torque wrench is CRUCIAL if you want to do an accurate job. Under, over torquing, or uneven torquing may lead to problems. Its a must if you want to continue working on your bike.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a "must," but I'd sure say it makes things easier and it make it less likely for someone to mess something up.

Re: Torque wrench a neccesity?

Peace of mind really, I have assembled top ends with out them and had no problems. I do use them all the time now with motors but ide feel OK about putting one together with out one knowing pretty much what 8 10 or 12 foot lbs feels like. These motors arnt really rocket science.

I agree. I use a torque wrench whenever I can but I wouldn't freak out if I didn't have one.

I don't think so. The bolts are just there to keep things tight. It's not a fine tuned adjustment that needs to be perfect. But yes, a torque wrench does make it easier.
