Opinions, please? I want to build a custom pit bike for the road courses, and I don't know which way to go. I hang out with a bunch of Z06 drivers, and a couple of them have Z50's with 125cc Chinese engines with auto clutches. I want something that will wax their asses, but still be tame enough for pit duty. Here are my choices: Bikes- '69 Z50A hardtail frame '83 Z50R frame '71 Z50A hardtail frame Engines- CT70 - complete Z50A - complete Z50 12V - bottom end I have everything to build either (or all) of them, but I really don't know which way to go with the engines. How does a TB 88cc big bore stack up against a stock Chinese 125? Should I get a race head, or is the CT70 head OK?

Re: Opinions, please? The hardtail will have the coolness factor, and since it's a pit only bike it won't really be that big of a deal to not have rear suspension. The 88 kit in the hardtail frame will scoot along pretty good, but I don't know if it'll keep up with a 125 china motor.

Re: Opinions, please? 12V Z50 engine, pick your favorite frame. Trailbikes 108-117cc with a manual clutch.

Re: Opinions, please? If you're hanging out with Z06 drivers, then I'm guessing money isn't much of an issue. You can either get fancy with a honda motor and go big bore/stroke, or go with an even bigger china motor, like a 178 or something. You gotta pay to play, so make sure every penny is used the best way possible. DAVE

Surely an 88cc kit with manual clutch can outgun a fat guy on a 125cc Chinese auto? I don't want to split cases for this one. I don't have the tools or experience to build a stroker. | |
