This weekend I will be upgrading the server to a much faster processor which will help with the lag spikes that we have been getting lately. Good news about this upgrade is that is has been caused by the growth of both Planet Side x Side and Planetminis. Server downtime should only be about 2-4 hours max.

Nick, have you looked at software level tweaks to help as well? If PM is php based there are some good accelerators available, and usually there are some db and file system tweaks that can be done to squeeze a bit more umph out of a box without swapping hardware.

Ya I am going to be optimizing the db's as well. I think the hardware upgrade is needed. PM me some ideas and ill review and see if we can use them.

I thought larger avitars for the mods was the big upgrade

it still takes a while when submitting a new thread. we have new Fios internet and its still slow

That's DB latency. Database performance (particularly on inserts or updates) is constrained by disk performance. Assuming PM hosts both the site and the DB on the same machine then a CPU upgrade would make little difference.

I'm pretty sure we all can't wait for this upgrade. And thanks for actually putting money into the site to make it a better place.

same thing here and half the time i cant get on at all.

Sever upgrade was done just a few hours ago and I will be monitoring the performance which should have been drastically increased. Sorry for the delay but we had to make sure we upgrade the right equipment on the site to compensate for the lag.

Haven't had a problem since. But it'll be a while before I'm sure it's fixed.
